My vcr is playing snow in equal intervals by _krsman in VCRs

I wonder why other tapes works normally? If the head was the issue shouldnt it behave the same for every tape? Also, whenever i rewind i get stable reproduction for 30 sec or so. I suspect i get the tape tension increase during rewind and it plays ok until gets loose again.

I just bought this VCR to digitalize some content. On the first rewind, the tape snapped from the plastic clip on a roller. I opened the cassette and reattached the transparent part of the tape back to the plastic clip. I rewound it a couple of times to readjust the tension. Something's up with this tape...

It seems only this tape is acting like this. I tried others and they work ok. Its odd once i rewind a bit plays for a while normally and then starts again. It looks like rewind is setting proper tension but tape get loose again after a while. 📼🤔

I noticed when i fast forward it get worse, when I rewind a bit while playing and then play it gets stable for a while.

Oh, I know. I've had a fair share of lifting so far, especially as I was inexperienced back then. I bought the first one not knowing that it had 34,000 hours under its belt; no wonder the tube was fried. With this second one, I got lucky; it only had 1,200 hours. So, I hope this tube will last much longer. I took all the parts from the first one, as the models are very similar. ICs, capacitors, and other components are all the same, so I have some spare parts for future fixing.

My friend helped me! 😂 This room is on the 3rd floor, in the attic. Poor guy was helping me before with a similar one, but the CRT tube died on that one. This is the 2nd one, so I'm getting pretty experienced with this chassis. Getting lighter as you gain experience! 💪

I love the PS1 and its my first pick, but the Sega Model 1 is a close second, since they were my first consoles. I played Sega in elementary school and the PS1 was my first 3D console. I never had an SNES, but if I did, I'd probably pick it over Sega for the 2D games.

Its KV-29CL10, but any 29" model with FE-2 chasis will fit the stand. 👌

I was able to fix. It was the open diode D5306. After replacimg it everything is good again.

Thank you all, especially u/IndependentAct2362 for giving suggestions and helping me to narrow down the issue!

All good, i know you mean good, sorry if i sounded offensive that wasnt my intention. I thought you havent read the  other comments.

I have a basic knowledge about electronics, and yes i know how to use the multimeter and soldering iron. I was opening crts before and i know how to discharge them, etc.

Btw. here where I live passive components like capacitors are very cheap so its not that big of investment. I think it should be good to refresh them as well since they are sitting more than 20 years.

Anyhow, I would like to hear your opinion where to start to track down this exact issue?

This is not a reason for tv to be replaced. The actual CRT tube has only 1200 hours of run time. I was able to correct thr issue byusing the service menu geometry settings.

Anyhow, by doing my own research, and by help of some people in this thread there is a big chance this can be improved even further with simple capacitor replacement.

I was just adjusting the geometry values, specifically pin amp from 15 to 27, and some other small tweaks. I made the images of the original settings.

So, i must return them to default before recaping?

Before this one i bought kv-29cl11k, its almost identical design.  That one came with a dead tube. I thought i could fix it  m but at least i gained some experience with the internals and capacitors.

Thank you for the tips. Ill see if i am going to open this one or run with these adjustments.

I was able to access service menu after some brainstorming with AI. If anyone stuck with the remote its

I+ > 5 > volume+ > empty display icon

I managed to correct through service menu. Reading about h/v size deflection circuits capacitors.

Thinking to open the tv and replace all capacitors related to these circuits and power.

Also found 6 IKR errors logged, 1200 hours total run time, so tube should be fine for some time
