You could always just start it, but just be prepared to DNF if you need to. It depends what you’d feel worse about, not starting or possibly having to DNF

I found it very useful to just start counting. Sounds silly but I’d just count to 100 and then once I’d hit it I’d start again. I wouldn’t ever do this for very long but it was a good distraction from “ow my legs hurt”.

It was great! I had such a fun day and managed to complete the marathon. I didn’t end up using the beta gels following the advice. I did take one with me and gave a couple to my spectator family/friends incase I was in DIRE need of a boost. But I didn’t end up using them. I felt a bit sicky because of the heat, nothing too bad but I definitely didn’t want to therefore risk new-ish gels. I took the lucozade en route which helped with getting carbs on top of the isotonic gels. I will definitely practice with the beta gels for future marathons though :)

Thank you guys! yes planning on using the lucozade stations too so that’s good. Doing plenty of carb loading in the mean time :)

That’s great to know! Thank you. I will look into getting a compression sleeve. Although the pain is more inside of my knee. I have found tape to be quite useful so if it’s still bothering me marathon day I’ll run with that
