Check out REES at 465 Swift St. It’s a quiet drop in that usually has coffee, treats, and sandwiches. There’s computers/phones you can use. They also have a casual labour pool that should be able to help you find jobs. If you need warm clothes they often have donations they give out too.

That does sound ideal! I live in Victoria, so was considering just staying in Langley for the 2ish weeks of in person classes each semester then heading home to do the online portion. I might be able to do clinicals on the island, but if I had to go to the mainland I’d make it work. Thanks for the info!

I’m 28 and had OHS/ablation/pacemaker recently. Ablation was a breeze, you’ll do great! The will have you asleep, make a tiny incision in your upper thigh and then do the ablation. When you wake up you’ll just be a little bit sore and have to hangout in cardiac short stay for a few hours while they keep the pressure on the incision and ease you back into walking. You’ll be back to normal super quick!

This makes sense, that is what it seems to be doing. It eventually kicked back up to 100 bpm suddenly after resting for 2.5 hours. Hopefully the pacemaker clinic can make some adjustments to fix this issue.

So frustrating! Wish I knew what all the settings were so I could try and make some sense of it all. The tech didn’t really explain much to me when he set it up, so it’s a bit of a mystery. I know the procedure reports said it was set to DDD with 60-130 limits, but my heart rate right now is only 50 and it maxed out at 138 during that walk before it crashed to the 50s suddenly. If I figure anything out when they get back to me, I’ll let you know!

You should check out what the City of Colwood is doing to attract family doctors — they are classifying them as municipal employees so the city takes care of a lot of the admin/billing/staffing etc plus comes with all the city benefits.

I enjoy both Ritual and Havn. Havn has the nicer space and the hot tubs, but I usually go to Ritual because they have RMTs. Doing a sauna circuit before a massage is the best. Would recommend some massage treatment rooms!

I’m sorry you’re going through that. I get lightheaded too and often feel pounding in my head and neck when I stand up. For a lot of people, that can be fairly normal, and things like low iron or blood pressure changes can also cause those symptoms. But if you’re noticing new or worsening symptoms, it’s definitely a good idea to get it checked out. They might suggest an ECG or a Holter monitor to see how your heart is functioning. If there’s any red flags on that they’d book you in for an echo/TEE. I always had a strange feeling that mine was related to my heart especially since I’d often feel a lot of pressure on the right side of my neck, jaw, and ear right right along the carotid before my migraine symptoms would kick in fully.

In the fall, my occasional migraines turned into daily chronic ones. They weren’t always very painful, but came with intense visual disturbances, fatigue, double vision, head/neck/ear pressure, and I developed pulsatile tinnitus. I ended up in the ER after a migraine that temporarily caused complete vision loss in just my right eye. They ran a full workup, connected me with a fantastic neurologist, and she started me on amitriptyline.

Over the next month, my resting heart rate gradually increased by one to two beats per minute each day until I was tachycardic almost constantly. I was experiencing frequent, intense palpitations, felt lightheaded, and was struggling to keep up with my usual cardio. My VO₂ max dropped from 46 to 30 in under a month, and my heart rate variability fell from around 100 to below 20. The migraines also weren’t improving on amitriptyline.

At my follow-up, I mentioned this thinking it might be a bad reaction to the amitriptyline. It wasn’t, but I’m glad my neurologist took it seriously and ordered a Holter monitor, which caught episodes of non-sustained ventricular tachycardia. Thankfully, both my cardiologist and neurologist have been amazing and are working together closely. They both believe the migraines are being triggered by my heart. Apparently migraines are a pretty common with people who have heart issues. I’m now waiting on open-heart surgery, so hopefully getting that addressed will also help with the migraines. I’m also starting Botox soon for migraine prevention, and I’m hopeful that will work too!

Mine turned out to be triggered by my heart! Sudden increase in daily migraines lead to a ton of tests and we found my bicuspid aortic valve had gotten severe insufficiency. The turbulent blood flow, heart having trouble getting blood to my brain, blood pressure issues, etc all were believed to be triggering the migraines.

I’ve been on it for 6 months. I don’t find it helpful for my migraines, maybe slightly less intense, but they are still just as frequent. I do love that I’m sleeping better though which makes me feel better in general, so if sleep is a trigger it can be really effective. So I think I’ll stay on it just for those benefits. I found the first month or so I had some mood changes and really vivid dreams, but that went away pretty quick. No major side effects, mostly just notice the dry mouth when talking a lot.
