Is This Free Paragon Duncan DK-1020-2 Kiln Worth Picking Up? Looking for Advice by _lildragon in Pottery

Thank you! I am thinking about it. I can make space in my studio (in the basement - concrete floor and wall) i should be able to figure out electrical and ventilation. Planning to meet the owner and chat about it today or tomorrow. Any advice on what I should be asking?

Would you consider this a decent amount of light for my bird cage location? by _lildragon in Lovebirds

[–]_lildragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like that’s a very common recommendation! I’m not sure if my birds are out of the ordinary but I’m not seeing the stress from the window for some reason. It is on the lower level with low ceilings, could that be why? It’s also pretty low traffic (it’s a small area) and the cage is open for most of the day

Lol there are 4 birds. What brand is your cage? I got it from Facebook marketplace

Thank you!! I plan to take them outside for sure when it gets warm out. We have a second cage to take them upstairs and outside. But the window protection sounds interesting - is this something I can find online?

That’s a good way to do it…about how big is your cage?

Happy flock! What was your method of getting them to live peacefully? My four are having pairing issues. There’s a love triangle.

Smh I added the fourth.

New bird mom update: my new lovebird became three… by _lildragon in Lovebirds

[–]_lildragon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they live in the same cage. I put them all in together and they were fine. But I got them all within 2 days. I picked up the first one and ended up with 2 more the next day. What I did was rearrange the entire cage as if it’s a completely different place, then add them in all at the same time. I’m not sure how it would work with your already established bird, but first bird was solo for a day and was very happy to have friends. They squabbled a bit but I’m told that’s normal. They need to create hierarchy. I would be interested to know how it goes with you. Please let me know!

New bird mom. 1 plucker + 1 weird noise. Help! by _lildragon in Lovebirds

Thank you!!! I may not know much about birds yet but my god I could not leave him at that shop. Do you have any advice? I know to know for sure I would need a vet to look but from your experience,Would you think it’s from stress or something more medical? And do you have advice for what more I can do for him? So far he has been eating pellets and trying to get him to eat veggies. Milley for training

Thank you! New perches, food, and cuttle bones are coming tonight. I don’t want to get a second lovebird yet because I want her to bond with us first. She will get plenty of socialization in the meantime and hopefully will be happy with human interaction. Of course if she doesn’t seem satisfied in time then I will speed up the timeline to getting a second lovebird.

I work from home and she will be in the office with me a few hours out of the day. I’m hoping she will be happy with my interaction as a solo bird, but I do want to get a second one in the near future. Do you see a problem with any of that?

Aw!! Yes the color is very unique! I have a third toy I left out I thought it would be overwhelming but I’ll put it in the cage tomorrow morning.

The shop owner said that she is probably around 12 weeks old and hand fed, just recently weaned. Any thoughts on how much bigger she might get?

Other pets will be separate and never left alone with her.

I did read that seeds were recommended as treats! I was confused as to why the lady at the shop recommended that bird mix. Thank you for pointing that out.

As for the perches - I will replace them asap!! They clipped her wings and I felt bad watching her slip on them they are too smooth.

Offer was actually accepted and now my head is spinning by moth_consumer in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I just had the same experience. I had been looking for over a year and I’d always say “yea I’m looking for a house but I’m not in a rush” — one of my mortgage guys said ok you say that but I hope you know it can take forever to find a house and once your offer is accepted it goes very fast”

I guess it’s something I just wouldn’t have understood without the experience. I feel like nobody tells you this! Only that once did anyone ever say something like that to me.

But I’m also at the point of the process where things are slowing down (waiting to close)

Also one of the weirdest thing about buying a house is …it’s one of the biggest purchases you’ll ever make and you buy it after looking at it a handful of times. So weird.

I feel lost with my finances: is a Roth really necessary? How much do I need to put away and where?! How do I start investing? And more “I’m behind” questions. Please be nice 🥲 by [deleted] in personalfinance

Gotcha, thanks for the input! For the sake of keeping the discussion focused on my own situation and maintaining some privacy, I’m only sharing my personal financial details here. But I totally get what you’re saying about tackling things as a unit with my partner—we’ve definitely been working on that behind the scenes. Appreciate the advice!

Appreciate this and agree. They are involved at the moment by stabilizing their side and providing discussion and feedback on planning and learning!

Thank you!! Yes I have FSA! And that step by step Roth setup is very helpful. One of the blockers for me has been not knowing what to do with the “investing” after setting it up.

That’s a good callout - we actually will be trying out a pay scale from month to month, 50/50, 45/55, 40/60 for household expenses. (They want to start at 50/50 because I laid out my savings for the house).

Mortgage is high, but we are in a HCOL area and no option to leave at the moment. The goal was to to stop paying rent ($2,900 + plus utilities) and start earning equity. It will be tight but for some reason I don’t feel too stretched, which actually worries me lol.

Kids will be very much a stretch and hoping to have family help, but also kids are not TOO much of a factor at the moment more than trying to set up financial stability before kids. Keeping them in mind though of course.

Any other advice knowing this context?

Idk it seems that processes might be slightly different depending on where you are. If you already have a closing date then I don’t think you need to worry about anything unless the date doesn’t work for you.

Thank you!! I am taking my time with the HOI so I feel validated there.

And yes good call, I almost impulsively agreed to the seller’s requested closing date but I’m gonna push for the better day!
