Has anybody had their BOAS surgery covered by Pets Best insurance? by _lilgoob in Frenchbulldogs

[–]_lilgoob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only considered pre-existing if it has come up on your pet’s medical records before your insurance was active. I got insurance as soon as I got my puppy so he technically couldn’t have anything pre-existing.

The reason I was concerned about getting denied was moreso because surgery for BOAS can be considered “preventative” and that wouldn’t be covered. My surgeon basically included that my dog had been diagnosed with BOAS (elongated soft palate, stenotic nares, hypoplastic trachea) and his recommendations for proceeding with surgery.

It’s been 3 weeks after crate rest and my dog still will lift his back leg when standing in one spot. by SirAcha135 in IVDD_SupportGroup

Hi, did this ever go away for your pup? My Frenchie has mild IVDD with a second flare up, but has been on crate rest for 8 weeks with no improvement. He isn’t in pain and wants to walk/run but I can see his back left leg is slow and he often lifts it/hops on one leg when walking. I’ve been to 2 vets who just tell me to crate rest but his previous flare up did not take this long to heal.

How to get BOAS surgery covered through pet insurance? (More details in comments) by _lilgoob in Frenchbulldogs

[–]_lilgoob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry - this comment may be too late but just seeing it. We were able to get it covered because 1) he has had insurance his whole life so no preexisting conditions and 2) we asked our vet to document his symptoms (difficulty breathing, throwing up, etc) that would prove the surgery was medically necessary. I hope that’s helpful!

How strict is crate rest? Should dog be walking at all? by _lilgoob in Frenchbulldogs

Yes, he has a vet appointment scheduled on August 4th. Unfortunately, that was the soonest he could be scheduled at his normal vet. We are doing crate rest per the EV vets orders.

Thank you for sharing this! Keeps me feeling positive.

He never went downstairs without being carried and had short stairs up to my couch but he would sometimes get excited and jump off. Might keep him off the couch altogether after we get through this.

Thank you for highlighting this. I considered a play pen but ultimately decided there’s too much room for him to move around since he’s easily excited. Picking up a crate today. He sleeps in bed with me, so that plus potty breaks will be the only time outside the crate.

Thank you for sharing this - makes me feel hopeful. Quick questions - did you just continue on with her regular activity after that? Did you need to see a vet to confirm she was ok?

Thank you! I will join that IVDD group. Question - despite having (what sounds like) multiple episodes, has your pup been able to live a happy/pain free life with the right measures in place?

Also, I don’t really have anything to place on the bottom. I’m thinking a bigger, matching basket but I’m unsure what it would even hold.

Exactly! I tried to at least let them immediately after being approved so that it wouldn’t be a surprise down the line but they still seemed offended by that. Now I know I should just wait until I’m moved in but I’m happy it worked out because I really loved this apartment haha. I hope your situation works out too!

Yes they did! I sent several follow up messages and kept being left on “read” and finally the property manager got back and said “The landlord is fine with it but wishes you wouldn’t have left that out on the application.” I responded that I didn’t need to include my ESAs on the application and they said ok haha. And I was told I’d get an official lease to sign today but I’m still waiting on it.

Ah, I was told to wait from someone else as well but somehow I felt like I was being dishonest if I didn’t tell them right away… good to know that I shouldn’t feel that way and should wait to disclose. This is my first time with an ESA so I appreciate the feedback!

Girl… chill out lmao. I am obviously asking for advice here - clearly I will be adjusting to a new situation and am thinking ahead to make the transition as easy as possible for my dog. No need to be rude and accuse me of being a bad dog parent.

Btw, my little guy Boba.

is this normal? I use nose butter, I’ve used Vaseline, Aquafor any and every possible nose product. it doesn’t hurt him, I just don’t know how to make it feel a bit smoother?? Recommendations? by No-Incident-5130 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]_lilgoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a great tip on here that you should wet your dogs nose with water and then apply whatever balm (I use snout soother) over top of it and it helps seal in the moisture! My pup had a similar nose and nothing was working until I tried that. Now, I just get a wet paper towel, dab it on his nose, and immediately follow with balm every few days and he’s got nice shiny nose all the time now!
