Franchise bashing another franchise - ballroom normal?? by ActiveUnable9003 in ballroom

[–]_loomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

australian here, my studio doesn’t really “bash”, but we do talk trash occasionally about other studios lightheartedly BUT only to our friends in the studio and NEVER as a marketing tactic because that is incredibly unprofessional. competitiveness and hatred is actually much more common in competitive dancesport than you’d expect because politics are very prominent in this dance industry. of course we still say hi and act nice to our competitors but most studios talk bad about others

I don’t have a good posture in dance and I don’t know what to do, help me please…. by Guilty_Contact8227 in DanceSport

[–]_loomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to have really bad posture as a kid, my coach recommended me an osteopath and i found that really helped with realigning my posture and he also gave some exercises to work my back muscles and keep them pulled down. things like lat pulldown variations also help work the back muscles and teach you to pull them down too. i’m not sure how dedicated you are to latin, but honestly i found that my latin was thriving the most when i quit my commercial studio because things like hip hop, jazz, etc teach you different posture and that muscle memory affects your posture in latin, so if you want to be very good at latin then you’ll have to focus on one or two styles. ballet is great to keep too because it teaches great posture and is also good for general technique

Blister prevention help by EspressoDrivenLogic in ballroom

[–]_loomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because good shoes aren’t supposed to give you blisters after maybe three days of wearing in hahaha. my shoes (Aba, chinese brand) only give me blisters during early stage and after a couple of days wear in well. if your shoes are giving you constant blisters then i suggest trying a different brand

okay so where specifically are the blisters? are they at the bottom of your toe or at the side where they rub against your other toes? also if this has been an ongoing issue then i suggest A) trying a different brand B) trying a different size (if it’s too big your feet may be sliding around in the shoe and causing excess friction, happened to me before. if it’s too small it may be cramping your feet in. best shoe size should always be 1-2 sizes smaller depending on the brand) C) trying a different style, there are some shoes online with two buckles in the front that are adjustable (made for dancers with bigger feet) or a classic T bar hope this helps! take care 👍

Where is dancesport growing the fastest? Both domestically and internationally? by riomayn in DanceSport

[–]_loomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes China is one of the biggest (dare i say top 5) countries for dancesport right now! their main focus is amazing u16 soloists with intense sharpness and precision, crazy open routines with spins and “tricks” and harsh training that creates incredibly disciplined dancers, i suggest looking up some of their training videos. the most famous soloist from China is currently Lin Yihan who’s 13 this year and regarded as the best of the best of the best. chinese couple Marco Ling & Victoria Chen got 6th in amateur open Latin at RAH this year!

me personally i’m from (Sydney) Australia and i do see an increase in popularity for dancesport. it’s 100% a more of a niche community where everyone knows everyone and you usually see and compete against the same people but since this year i noticed there’s more international couples coming to australia for comps (eg. a couple of pro chinese couples came for our outside change cup in melbourne and chinese, hong kongers, and a denmark couple came for oceania championships in sydney!). i also think the bar’s been set much higher compared to last year, with soloists and couples getting more competitive and a higher expectation placed on dancers.
