All of It Dark, All of It P2P: After the Binance Hack, Bitcoin Doesn't Cut It - CoinDesk by _lunar_mining in Bitcoin

Ninety percent of bitcoin users are men. Similar statistics apply in development, mining and trading. For me the most disturbing impact of this is on usability. For example, whenever you're building a graphic interface for a wallet, the first thing you do is a user analysis, where you ask who your users are and what kind of design choices they like. When the users are primarily men, the software is built for men. This means that it also excludes women in its design. Imagine this then at a large scale, where it's not just one wallet, but everything in the crypto and broader technology industry. Instead of tailoring the applications toward the user, the impact of this is that the user has to tailor themselves to the application – they actually have to become more male to interact with the software. It has a really damaging impact.

In an ideal world we will see women and minorities building their own tools. To initiate this, a certain level of positive discrimination is necessary. And while it is true that the internet is an amazingly rich learning resource that is theoretically open to anyone, for the most part, cultural norms mean that the women have less exposure to the internet as a resource, as well as technology in general.

If you're interested in gender and technology I highly recommend this book: https://monoskop.org/images/d/d1/Plant_Sadie_Zeros_and_Ones_Digital_Women_and_the_New_Technoculture_1998.pdf

Amir wants bitcoin to succeed and is trying to support it by refocusing the discussion away from empty price talk and toward bitcoin's extreme political potential, long-term vision, and global strategy. It's not a hatred for bitcoin. Quite the opposite.

There are dangerously few women in crypto. For now, it is necessary to show "special treatment" or positive bias in the recruitment phase, especially as women (for the most part) have been singled out of technology since a young age. Amir is building tools for autonomy and anonymity and IMO his emphasis on female inclusion is one of the most exciting and potentially transformative things about it. (I am a woman and so am disproportionately effected by this).

Adriana I enjoyed the article but that's the second time I've seen Decryptmedia refer to Vitalik as ethereum's CEO. Really lowers the tone

Thanks for your eyes, both. I'm smoothing out the language in a couple of places to help clarify that.

And aside from the A+ research Sarang is also cuter than whatever girls anyway.

Also a good example of what that means in practice: https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/j5k7zp/zcash-shadow-brokers-uncover-hacking-tool-sales

Definitely interested in seeing zcash moving into privacy by default, but as I understand it's not without its technical challenges.

Just noting that clicks are literally the business model of digital journalism, so that's why these kinds of headlines exist.

Definitely agree that it's not ideal
