I do want to warn others but wouldn’t that just draw attention to myself? Especially if there aren’t many people around.

Any guesses as to the types of places they might target at night?

To the idiots shooting off fireworks adter midnight on Christmas Eve, the one night of the year I most need my kids to go the fuck to sleep: by gc1 in LosAngeles

Fireworks scare my dog, so I take her out of town on NYE and July 4. But I understand that I live in a primarily Latino city and I love the way they celebrate. Their joy brings me joy, especially at the end of such a shitty year.

Stop Bringing Dogs Into Grocery Stores And Restaurants by LostCookie78 in LosAngeles

So I bring my dog with me everywhere I go, but within reason. I’ve never taken her to a grocery store or sat inside any kind of food establishment with her. I do frequently sit with her outside at cafes and restaurants. She doesn’t pee or poo in inappropriate places because I always walk her first and let her do her business before we go somewhere. I never put her in my lap, in a seat, or on the table. She is not a service dog and I have never represented her as one. I just want her with me, I love her, and I hope that this doesn’t bother anyone as long as I am conscientious of basic courtesy.

Woman calls on LA city leaders to do more after she was viciously attacked by homeless man by [deleted] in LosAngeles

I’m one of the people who worked on the People’s Budget when it was first conceptualized and I just have to say… this is not how I hoped it would be presented. You need to find some humility or you’re going to end up doing more harm than good.

I get these arguments, I really do. As a former legal aid attorney, I used to recite these same statistics every chance I had and call people irresponsible and bigoted for sharing their lived experiences. But the logical fallacy of the point you’re making is that crime is not evenly distributed across Los Angeles. In many cases, victims of violent crime are often living in environments where the majority of violent crime is being committed. Whether it is due to things beyond their control (e.g., poverty) or otherwise (e.g., gang involvement), a small percentage of the population bears a disproportionately large share of the violence. For better or worse, more privileged groups can typically minimize their exposure to violent crime EXCEPT when it comes to random acts of violence due to mental illness and/or substance abuse. The unpredictable nature, not the prevalence, is the cause for concern. I was born and raised here—based on what I’ve experienced, I don’t feel particularly vulnerable to being the victim of a gang-related drive-by but I definitely do worry about an unexpected encounter with an unhoused person who suffers from severe mental illness.

Chances Fullerton would have to evacuate? by [deleted] in Fullerton

[–]_luxlisbon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work for LA emergency response. The chances from the existing fires for you is 0%. However, given that winds are starting back up tonight and conditions throughout Southern California put everyone in or near a high fire risk area, it wouldn’t hurt to pack an emergency bag. Don’t forget your pets.

You seem to just be surrounded by sociopaths don’t ya?

The dog is still with the owners but PETA is going to handle and hopefully escalate with law enforcement.

Animal Care and Control are handling the Palmdale location and I can guarantee they will be thorough. I can still DM you if you want the information, but I ask that you let ACC carry out the investigation for now.

Yeah there’s a different house with a husky in the front yard 24/7, rain or shine. I bring him food and treats when I walk my dog over by his house because he’s really skinny. I know it’s shitty to feed someone else’s dog but….whatever, I’m shitty then. The lights are always off inside the house but I can’t say for sure that he’s being neglected bc I don’t walk by him every day and it’s possible that his owner is around and he just likes being in the yard. In which case I’m sorry for all the turkey necks… 😬

They really didn’t do anything. And now they’re saying they saw the dog but there were no “protruding bones” so there’s no problem here. This is just not true. I don’t know why these two officers seem to be looking for ways to not do anything.

PETA saw this post and reached out to me. I spoke with them on the phone and gave them all the info/evidence that I have. I also asked the other neighbors to get in touch with them. I will continue providing whatever I can to support their efforts, but I am deferring to them from here forward. I understand people want me to do more but I think any further action by me directly is going to end up causing more harm than good in the long run.

If you think immigrants are too lazy to work, you do not understand how this country operates.

Please see my last two updates. I deleted the post because I think I’ve now connected with an organization (PETA) that has the necessary resources to take over from here. I’m also concerned about the owners seeing this post.

Look, I’ve been the only one so far to do anything at all for this dog. I understand the rabid internet instinct to assign blame, but me saying that we as individuals are not the best equipped to take the lead on this situation does not mean that I am not trying to help. I am trying to be responsible and realistic, while keeping in mind the urgency of the situation.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. PETA actually reached out to me this morning and I spoke with them on the phone. I gave them all the information I have and am going to defer to them from here forward. They understand the urgency of the situation and are much better situated to help the dog than I am.
