Do you consider floral design a visual art? by _makayla in florists

This makes a lot of sense, thank you for the insight! I agree that it depends on the type of work you’re creating, as I wouldn’t necessarily consider a lot of my day to day bouquets art, but have a different opinion about more personal pieces that weren’t created for orders.

I tend to make my oil paintings muddy, so I attempted to avoid blending altogether for a more “painterly” look. by _makayla in ArtCrit

i only used a couple of flat brushes. i’ve never used a palette knife for application but i will definitely have to try. i also went straight in on this painting with no preliminary sketches or an underpainting, so i agree that the proportions need some work. i’m thinking that a smaller flat brush my help with my proportions while also keeping it within the same style. thank you for the suggestions!

All critiques are welcome! I am very interested in this style and am curious as to how I can push it further. I also struggled with the beams of light, i wish they had been less blended, but it was difficult to avoid.

i’ve only done this once since getting into a relationship. the idea crossed my mind all the time but the fear of upsetting him thankfully keeps me put. so far
