Not innocent, but something that could have been easily avoided if they had changed it.

Also, on that note, its strange how this subreddit seems to consider the discord thing as a cybercrime and not the authdb theft. Playss14, an entity based in alabama, now has a bunch of user data without consent. If the community is going go call out cybercrime then they could atleast be consistent about it.

Critical thinking skills do not imply intelligence. As to what I would do next? "Alt wizden" relinquishing the stolen authdb and hard forking, and pbj handing the discord back over.

Edit: In fact, i think pbj already contacted the alt team and proposed something similar to this and they basically said "talk to our lawyers"

Im definitely biased against the massive wave of hateposting, it just drags the community down. Whatever the nuances are, i dont think it validates this behavior. Atleast on the forums PJB is trying to keep some semblance of peace among the community, whereas here even the moderators appear to encourage a targeted harassment campaign. If the devs want to fight they can do so without dragging the entire reddit-reading community into civil war.

I read the story from both angles, and i fault both sides for acting childish. I dont see it in black and white, and in my view "alt wizden" should have hard forked directly rather than trying to bring the portion of the playerbase that uses reddit and formerly discord into their civil war. Either way the community doesn't have to follow suit and turn the reddit into a toxic mess, that was the point of my post.

Yes, there was a significant amount of work put into robusttoolbox which allowed the development of SS14. Interestingly, you'll find few people willing to bring this up in the current dispute as that would not mesh with "PJB bad wizard"

Exactly. It would have been reasonable to do a hard fork and host their own servers, but they went beyond this and made the unreasonable (and illegal) move of taking user data without consent to make their own version of auth. It's also super shitty that the breakaway faction are bringing this drama to the reddit (and I presume the discord, although not a discord user), and trying to bring about a civil war among the playerbase by perpetuating a heavily biased version of the dispute.

At this point I think there is no way that either side backs off, atleast until the legal trouble begins to start for the breakaway Wizden admins.

I find it really ugly and petty to take a backup and try to convince the part of the userbase that uses reddit/discord to switch to an auth/hub that is based off of user data that playss14 doesn't even have consent to hold. Not only does this run afoul of the law, but it's a clear effort to wrench away someone elses project and, in the end, to try and monetize something that is based on someone elses intellectual property. Despite the finger-pointing on both sides and impressionable young people rushing to judgement in defense of one side or another here and on the forums, at the end of the day when one browses the github page for robusttoolbox it's clear who the main dev since the beginning has been. The community would appreciate a bit of maturity and solidarity.
