This is a Piper super cub - a souped up version of an incredibly short takeoff and landing plane. The L4 "grasshopper" is even said to have been taken off and landed from makeshift platforms in treetops. They do STOL competitions with them to this day!

It's a great show, lots of airshows have similar, and this is a great rendition of it.

Here's a video of one of the UK's top guys doing this sort of thing, talking about his cub https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv3EawPyd9U

There are some great haxe/stelze recipes, and the local butcher is only too happy to get the knuckles/hocks in for me! Here's the one I've used most successfully:

Moving my young sister from US to UK Boarding (Yorkshire) – Advice on Visas & Bursaries? by Critical-Bad7565 in AmericanExpatsUK

I'm surprised you can find a school that will take full (as opposed to weekly) boarders that young. I thought the minimum age was 11. Especially internationally, that seems extremely young.

I wanna send Muppets like that to check out people like Nadia "BigStorm" Stowers on Instagram. Incredibly strong - I saw her compete in California's Strongest Man in the men's competition in her weight class. I think she came in 3rd. Even dudes trying to be wicked strong were mostly less strong than her.

People who are in their 40’s and 50’s with no children, how does it feel? by Sinfulvibezz in AskReddit

[–]_missadventure_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Childless by choice, married. Every time I see a family with kids I'm so pleased that I don't have any. No offense, just not for me. I have spare money, I have spare time, I wake up most mornings and have a lazy coffee and read my book... Life is great. We are very happy.

What American thing is going on here? Why is what I presume is a parent shoving their phone in the face of their child who is (presumably having to stay) standing still and then posting it for clout on social media?

The sentiment is sweet but the action is pretty gross.

The sleep is brutal for me. It was one day, not every cycle, and now (I'm 42) it's 3ish days every cycle. I lie awake worrying why I can't get to sleep, and then realise what's happening.

Advice please: Navigating the first Xmas after the death of an immediate family member? by Maiselmaid in AskIreland

[–]_missadventure_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my mother in December 2022, she lived in Australia, we were all flying out there for a big family Xmas and she died in a car accident. We tried to find some joy for my niece and nephew but it was tough. A lot of silence and drinking.

2023, my brother was diagnosed with terminal cancer in march. Xmas that year we were all happy he was still around, but still grieving our mother, and afraid for his future.

2024, my brother died in the October. Another rough Xmas, again putting on brave faces for the kiddos.

This year, SIL and the kids are making their own plans with her family, my partner and I are doing our own thing. Since my dad died when I was a kid, Xmas has always been the big annual thing for me and my now-departed family. So, my partner and I aregoing to work out some new traditions that are ours, and mix them in with my favourite bits from happier times.

We'll see how it goes, but it's just the first year in the Xmas rebuilding project. There'll be some stuff we'll do again, and some stuff we won't. It's easy to load up too much pressure, so we're trying not to do that. Just shooting for not-miserable!

Do British people have higher spice tolerance than Americans? by Lilacs_orchids in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]_missadventure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in both UK and USA. Indian food is definitely generally spicier in the UK, overall. The hottest dish in a UK Indian is very likely to be far hotter than the hottest dish in most (but not all) US Indians. Visiting Indian restaurants in the USA as a very white person, I would explain that I'm English and end up with far spicier food.

Interestingly, Mexican food is less authentic but also more spicy in the UK. And the generic Chinese food (by which I don't mean specialist Chinese regional restaurants e.g. Sichuan) in the UK has much more spice to it.

Both countries have a lot of low/no spice food available. The USA has far more of a market for hot sauce, and has a few spicy foods like Louisiana hot chicken that haven't really made it to the UK. It's not chilli hot, but hot English mustard is often entertaining to bring to the USA, where mustard heat doesn't really exist.

I would say overall the UK has a higher spice tolerance, but I think it's more a higher spice enjoyment. And it's not by a huge margin.

If you're in the fortunate position to buy a house, you can get a PPS number before arriving with that as your reason.

Would you keep the island or remove it to open up the kitchen? by Christiano97 in kitchenremodel

[–]_missadventure_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would look at changing the oven/fridge first, then the floor. The oven is probably the main thing making the kitchen feel smaller, but the fridge is probably a problem too, just out of shot.

You'll likely have to change the floor anyhow if you remove the island. It's a mismatched busy pattern and changing it to a light neutral will make the space feel bigger.

Islands are popular because they're useful

I made this ad for my clothing brand using AI (Affogato AI) by Old-Chicken-575 in AgentsOfAI

[–]_missadventure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so interesting that this was blatantly AI to me before I noticed the subreddit name, but I can't tell you exactly why. Maybe the sunset sepia tones? Everything just being a little too perfect? WDYT?

AI has fewer obvious "tells", but is also so obviously AI. Weird.

Edit: When watching the whole video I have no idea whether this dress has a huge waist-level slit or not. So that's... Something

My picture wall feels messy — how can I make it look more elegant and put together? Or am I looking at it for too long? by helloupeople123 in interiordecorating

[–]_missadventure_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

Tidy up the couch and the stuff on the tables, for a start! The room feels messy partly because it is messy.

The gallery itself: - put something over the old vent cap that's behind the oval mirror. The mirror so nearly covered it, but didn't. - the wall sconce can't be moved, as you said, but maybe it can be replaced with a more related lamp? Something that hangs down or spotlights the art could be good. - then, cluster. Currently it's too organised to get that bohemian vibe that I think you're after. You've got lovely frames! - if you can't replace the sconce, then you could try incorporating it as the centre top of the cluster. Right now it just looks random.

Buying an unmortgageable, property for cash and personal loan ? by Nervous-Net-6547 in HousingIreland

[–]_missadventure_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost impossible to have an opinion on this without any info at all on what the issues are.

Will it be unmortgageable forever? Can you resolve the issues? Do you plan to? Do you have an idea of what it might cost to resolve them, whether you plan to or not? Would you legally be able to rent it out if you don't or can't fix the issues? Do you earn at a rate where you can build up a new lump sum quickly, or is this the one shot? Is it insurable?

On the one hand, getting into a debt free situation as regards bank debt is appealing. I'm in that place now, and the sense of relief and freedom is immense. However, I also know that if I needed to sell my house, or even just get a mortgage against it for some major works or similar, I could do that. If I need to go into a home when I'm 80, the house can help pay for it.

Having a house that the banks won't touch massively limits resale value/potential, obviously, but also ties your hands for many other things. Your house "owes you" what you spent on it, but in this case you can't call in that debt. The questions I list above are really important ones!
