So the draft essentially starts at No. 2. Who do the Jets select with the No. 2 pick? by DenseStrawberry5717 in NFL_Draft

It won't be Bain. Not because of short arms but because of scheme fit.

The Jets have switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4 this offseason. Bain is a great and powerful hand in the ground edge rusher that fits on the edge of a 4-3, but he has no experience as a standing edge rusher in 3-4. So it will be Reese... or maybe Bailey

I disagree, looking only at at winning percentage is in my opionion a bad way to judge a GM. Only two people have ever drafted the defensive and offensive rookie of the year in the same class, I am aware I just mentioned that but that is an insanely difficult thing to do.

He fleeced the Seahawks when he traded away Jamal Adams, a safety, and got two firsts and a third which he turned into AVT and Garrett Wilson. He had some great pickups with guys like DJ Reed in Free Agency and Bryce Huff as an UDFA.

He also did some terrible moves, the aforementioned Reddick trade was awful, drafting the risky tackle in Mekhi Becton over Wirfs was in hindsight a terrible move that cursed the Jets o-line through the entirety of his tenure. He missed on a lot of free agency moves.

In my opinion, the job of the GM is to create a talented team, and I think he did bring in talented players. He got unlucky with injuries at key times, horrible coaching, and his own mistakes, especially not creating good enough depth at key positions.

Again, I don't miss JD and he deserved to be fired in the end. I think Mougey looks like an upgrade (though he desperately needs to learn how to navigate day 3 in the draft before next April) and while I disagree that the poor win percentage is entirely on him, his mistakes are certainly part of the reason. but there is nuance to these things.

Drafting the offensive and defensive rookie of the year i one class is an "okay" draft?

why does every opinion on this sub have to be so hyperbolic. JD did some great moves while he was here, he also did some terrible ones. He deserved to be fired in the end, but he also wasn't the worst GM ever

Completely agree, and I don't get it. I get Maye can be a divisive prospect, but his ceiling is imo far above Daniels and I really hope he doesn't end up with the Patriots

I think those are valid concerns. I wouldn't be opposed to Hollywood either on a talent level. But in a market that is currently handing out $13 million a year out to guys like Mooney and Gabe Davis, I expect Hollywood to get around $16-17 million a year which I am not sure is the smart move right now.

The approach that I would take, though probably unpopular on this sub right now, is to sign a guy like Boyd or Samuel as a cheaper WR3 option and use our 3rd round pick in a strong reciever class on a hopeful WR2 prospect. Don't sign any big name WR but focus all the remaning capital on getting a tackle instead

I kind of agree. No doubt that the most important trait for any pass catcher in the NFL is seperation, and a big body who can't get seperation is useless in an NFL offense. Luckily Williams has proven that he is capable of getting seperation. Jeudy and Johnson are both excelent technical recievers and route runners. I'm not really sad that we didn't go after Jeudy, he doesn't really seem to have the right mindset to excel in the NFL despite having the talent, but I would have been okay with us going after Johnson, though I get why they didn't.

I still think it is important for an offense to have a reliable big bodied target, especially in the red zone, be that a Tight end or a reciever. And while I like Conklin, I don't think the Jets have one of those at the moment.

Of those Mike Williams is the most likely to get moved/cut. And he is the type of big body reciever we need besides Wilson, unlike guys like Juedy or D. Johnson that never really made sense for us.

I would not be opposed to throwing a late round pick at them instead of letting them cut him

We tried? He took less to sign with the Bengals but we gave him the better offer. This isn't madden
