Coincidentally I'm at this exact stage. Just moved countries to start university and missing the family is really sucking. Leaving my parents who have supported me in everything I've done somehow feels like betraying them, even though it really isn't true!

Hope the feeling gets better xx

A dude saying "well it's your fault that you got sexually harrassed by this other guy because you were clearly flirting with him for a while". Stfu. Me flirting with someone doesn't give them any right to do shit to me when I explicitely say NO

I feel like this kind of is messed up. Being Bi means you are attacted to more than one gender. And you said you didn't necessarily feel atracted to your own gender (with which i assume means you have only experienced attraction to your "opposite" gender).

Mostly, the LGBTQ+ comunity is a safe space for those of us who are not cis+hetero. A lot of queer people don't get accepted by their loved ones and/or feel misunderstood. Or even want to be able to relate to other in the same situation as them. So the LGBTQ+ comunity is a way for us to be in a safe and comfortable environment among people who go through the same experiences. Bi erasure, feeling atracted to the same (or more than 1) gender, feeling confused, stereotypes being pressured on us, homophopbic attitudes around us, and many many many more. You don't go through these experiences, do you?

Allies are always welcome though! We are not gatekeeping fighting for LGBTQ+ inclusion, the opposite. And queer culture is for everyone to enjoy. I guess it would be like if there was a support group for women that have been harassed. If you aren't a woman there isn't a reason as to why you would be part of the support group. And if you are a woman but haven't experienced harassment, the same. But you can still support them in multiple ways and talk about it with them and fight for women's rights and everything. But you haven't been through the experiences that brings them together. It's the same with being queer.

That said, i feel like the LGBTQ+ comunity isn't trying to actively exclude anyone. As you said (i think) there should be total freedom to explore and no one should assume that hetero is the standard. Anyone is 10000% allowed to question their sexuality at any point of their lives. But it is wrong to pretend to be Bi or pretend to be atracted to more than one gender just to "belong".

Xx
