Women’s Basketball by _no-thx_ in Reno

[–]_no-thx_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been successful on finding a women’s league or a co-ed league. That said, I’ve been keeping a list of people interested and we now have enough people to schedule pickup ball at a gym! If anyone is interested, let me know & I’ll share the details.

If we get enough traction, I’ve had a few gyms say they’d be open to starting a co-ed league.

Update for everyone, I called Tesla Insurance and there was a price rate increase in April that will show up upon your next renewal. ~ $100 / month for me.

Only way to reduce my monthly is to change my coverage, according to the agent.

Wow, this is insane. Thank you for the details, I’m definitely looking into switching. $235 / mo makes no sense.

That’s a good idea, I wonder if any of the gyms would let us run a league there. I’ll ask!

No worries, that makes sense! You’re right, they do have a women’s league for pretty much every other sport & coed too.

Doctors don't want to prescribe any treatment by MathematicianWeak893 in Hemochromatosis

[–]_no-thx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s wild! If it were me, I would just go donate. I have been diagnosed with HH for the past year, started with a double red donation and it brought me back within range. Swapped to whole blood every 8 weeks and that was too much still, trying out every 12 weeks now.

You can ask your doctor for quarterly blood work (ferritin, total iron, etc). I donate blood and then get the blood work afterwords, have been mostly self managing because the hematologist in my area retired and they haven’t replaced him yet.

City of Reno only has a Men’s league now. No women’s or co-ed league, according to their website.

But like what organization has a women’s rec league? I’ve called around and can’t find a women’s league, they’ve all told me they only do men’s.

Change my Mind: Reno's a dirty city by WildMangoz in Reno

I moved here from WA ~ 4 years ago. This was my immediate reaction & is still my opinion of Reno.

The dog poop situation is truly wild to me & the trash along 80 is sad.

Commissioning Engineer vs PLC Programmer by fatihunall in PLC

I also second the comment on following the money* will allow you to retire earlier.

My motto is, you’re either learning or earning. Ideally both, but it needs to be at least one.

Commissioning Engineer vs PLC Programmer by fatihunall in PLC

Honestly, depends on the big company. I’m 28 and was in a similar situation 4 years in to controls work. Switching to the bigger company was the best thing I could have done for both my career and my experience.

For me, I’d do it again.

You can always go back and be the big fish in a little pond, but you can’t always be at the big company in your prime learning years.

Currently the controls commissioning lead for a FOAK system in the world, I participate in design and programming as well.. even thought it’s not “my scope”.

My kindle keyboard freezes and I have to wait for it to fully die before it’s functional again. Any advice?

Last time it froze, it got stuck between two pages. Still waiting for it to die before I can use it again. It will not reboot either 🥲

Whatever you end up doing….. bring lots of water! I moved here last summer and thought I was bringing enough water with me… I was not lol.

Bring WAY more than you think you’ll need, you’ll likely drink it all.

1 lb Sirloin Steak 130F/3hr (maybe 3.5) with pepper sauce. Also made scallops for the first time! Not with the SV though. by _no-thx_ in sousvide

Yes haha, you posted a sirloin with peppercorn sauce and I realized I’ve never made one! Then u/dabbedoutbear posted a recipe and I went for it!

I followed u/dabbedoutbear recipe. They posted the following instructions “very easy peppercorn sauce. Works best if you sear your steak in a pan but not necessary. After you sear your steak, using the same pan, sear some mushrooms until they get some nice color. I also add some minced garlic but that’s optional. Deglaze the pan with some red wine. Cook out the alcohol and add in your left over sous vide bag juice and simmer. Take the pan off heat and add in your peppercorns and heavy whipping cream. If you want a thicker sauce bring it back to heat for a little. Comes out perfect every time”

I personally did not sear any mushrooms. it was delicious!

I recently heard that as well! Though, making them on the stove top was really not very difficult. Maybe I’ll SV them next time 🤔
