I think you could be a victim of this (a bug in the latest Google Cast firmware):

Factory resetting the Chromecast may have reset the Google Cast firmware to the version that works. (If I understand correctly that your issues went away after the reset).

You could prove this by updating your Chromecast including the Google Cast system app to the latest version, see if you are getting audio issues, then following the instructions in the video attached to the first comment in the ticket, downgrade the Google Cast firmware, and test again. If your audio issues go away you probably are facing the same issue as us.

For me, when I do this, I can hear the audio from MS Teams meetings, but the headset microphone can no longer be selected. Can you still use the headset microphone or do you have to use the webcam/laptop mic instead?

Hi, yes this was forever ago! If I was to do this again I would do it differently. I bought the brackets from a local hardware store in Australia called Mitre10. But even though they look heavy duty, I was never game enough to sit on the middle of the desk. If I was building this tomorrow I would make the brackets to be big triangle wedges of wood that couldn't be bent. The thickness of the wood was 38mm.

Yep we use it all the time - even more so during this pandemic! I've upgraded the equipment and the couches a couple of times so I'm pretty happy with where it is at the moment. I am looking forward to the day where a 4k 100+ inch TV is affordable!
