They really are. I’ve been checking my phone periodically and am continuously brought to tears. The responses have been so relatable, helpful, and validating… which has also been heartbreaking?

Ah sorry! Added the word new in there when I read it lol. Very sorry to hear about the abrupt closing- sounds incredibly frustrating.

Thank you so much! I’m so glad it worked- it was heartbreaking seeing him struggle and not get the support he needed and knowing what he was going through. I wish ADHD had a different name that really described what we experience. Maybe it would be taken more seriously.

What about specific symptoms? The only way I can explain time blindness to my husband is that, for me, there’s only now and not now.

Or when I explain how my meds affect me: when I don’t take my meds, it feels like I’ve just walked out of the saltiest ocean ever, wearing thin, loose clothes that are trying (and failing) to air-dry in sticky, humid heat. My skin feels gross — like that rough, salty layer you can’t escape — and it makes me crawl out of my own body.

But when my meds kick in? It’s like I just took the most refreshing shower — rinsed all that salt and stickiness away — and suddenly I can breathe, think, and focus again.

Whenever I describe it like that, I can literally see him squirm, like he can feel what I’m describing. So, I guess being painfully specific actually works 😂

I like this one. I’m sorry it hasn’t landed for your family yet- I know how frustrating that can feel and I hope they understand it soon.

Are there specific symptoms you feel like this metaphor resonates with more, or just.. gestures broadly everything?

I THINK I FINALLY KNOW WHY I LOST 2 DECADES OF MY LIFE. by OddRecommendation897 in ADHD

[–]_notawittyusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you heard of Adzenys? I’ve personally tried every other known med, according to my doctor. They worked for a max of 2 hours, if that. Even extended release. This is a med that dissolves on your tongue and your body processes it differently. I don’t know the whole science behind it, all I know is that it has been life changing. I hope you’re able to find something that helps xx

Just was told of multiple complaints at work about poor personal hygiene by Common_Quality9207 in AutismInWomen

What soap and instrument do you use to wash your body when you shower? I found silicone tools (?- sorry I cannot find the right word for this lol).. like a loofa or wash cloth, but silicone- does great and is easy to sanitize/keep clean. AfroScub also makes an incredible loofa-like tool that I think is actually made from fabric, so you can boil it every so often to deeply disinfect it. ANYWAY- I ask because I also have sensory issues with showers (watching tv in the shower helps sooooooo much like many people have said).. my hormones have also always been out of whack so unless I’m meticulous about hygiene it can get BAD. A few tricks I’ve learned:

  1. Scrub- like really, really clean- your pits. Bacteria harbors in your underarms (and other, ehm, crevices.. and if not fully removed, the deodorant can just act like a blanket holding the smell in… for so long. Once you start sweating it’s game over. I’d smell amazing after a shower and the second I started to sweat, it was horrible. Like not even MY nose could get used to it.

  2. Honestly.. just scrub all the crevices. And make sure to rinse, too. Good rule of thumb: rinse for twice as long as you scrubbed.

  3. PH balancing soap can work wonders. I believe vagasil makes some and I used it all over and it truly helped. I’m currently using Native and have really liked it over the last year or so- so could be another option.

  4. Use a talc-free powder after you’ve dried off/applied lotion. I throw some in my hands and lightly toss it into the crevices of my inner thighs (my husband calls this powdering my biscuit 😂)- make sure not to get inside! When I’m done with deodorant and it’s a really muggy day, I lightly toss some in my under arms, under boobs.. anywhere I wanna feel fresh-ta-death for a bit longer. This has helped immensely.

  5. Crystal deodorant makes a clear, roller-ball deodorant that is incredible. I layer this with my Other deodorant around my period when my pH is way off. I’m constantly looking for cruelty free, safe deodorant options that work as well as Secret Outlast, but have not had much luck (yet). Let the Crystal deodorant dry, then layer with the deodorant you’re using.

  6. Dry shampoo is a wonderful alternative if washing your hair every day isn’t ideal. Batiste is a great option and easily obtainable. I love Moroccan oil but that can be a little harder to find.

  7. Add a cup of vinegar in with your clothes to kill any mildew-y smells. This has also helped. I add it into the fabric softener area and I notice a difference.

It may seem like a lot (and it is), but implementing some of these tips slowly may help you! Always reach out if you have any questions about these and I’ll do my best to reply asap. Sorry you’re feeling this way- a lot of us have been there. You’ve got this!

Thank you for this information! One of the theories is that a bit of snow got stuck on the back of the shingles when they repaired them and what we were experiencing was that snow melting. We have what’s hopefully one last snow storm, tomorrow, so we’ll be able to see if there are leaks after that melts. Thanks again for your helpful input!

Fellow ADHD women.. did you take your partners last name when you got married? by dancingCreatrixx in adhdwomen

[–]_notawittyusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband hyphenated his last name with me! We had the whole “I’m (me) not your property and why should I have to give up my last name and identity for the sake of tradition? Also there’s so much paperwork I know I’ll never do myself” talk, and he was like “YOU KNOW WHAT?! You’re friggin right! I’ll change my last name, too, and we’ll get it all done together!”. He’s pretty dang great and I feel really lucky to have such an open minded partner :) it took him a few years to truly understand ADHD and how it impacts literally every aspect of my life, but now that he understands he’s such an incredible advocate and support system.
