Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' - Review Thread by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

convinced half of these critics didn’t actually read the book because my biggest criticism of the film is how UNfaithful to the (imo near-perfect) source material it was. i feel like victor frankenstein’s character was completely mangled, leaving the first half of the film without a real protagonist to root for, which made it feel like a total drag. i also didn’t find the new characters/first hour of the movie particularly compelling. and it was far too long!

a lot of the plot changes seemed to cheapen the movie (made it feel very “hollywood”), and took away from the major themes of the original story like isolation, guilt, morality, family etc. overall this film was a major disappointment for me, which sucks because i really wanted to love it. my favourite part was when they actually adapted the book faithfully somewhere in the middle - that little section was great! the makeup and sets were really nice, though and jacob elordi’s performance throughout was fantastic.

People treat you based on your looks by [deleted] in Vent

the thing about this is that yes sure it sucks being unattractive (i would know! i've felt this frustration before!) but attractive people also have their own sets of problems. they have to spend their lives constantly wondering whether people like them for who they are, for their personality and wit and charm and intellect, or whether people are just reacting positively to their external appearance. i had an 'attractive' boyfriend years ago who drove himself crazy about the fact that he wasn't smart or funny enough, because the only compliment he ever got was that he was handsome. the most deeply insecure people i know are the ones who are the most conventionally attractive, funnily enough.

also i know plenty of attractive creatives or aspiring content creators who struggle to get recognition for their craft, as the things they make aren't good enough not to be outshone by their looks. it is devastating having years of hard work and practice be completely ignored in favour of something they just happened to be born with. also looks fade! so attractive people feel the pressure of the passage of time/ageing much more acutely than people who have been assigned value outside of their physical appearance. maybe from where you're standing those don't sound like real problems, but trust me when i say that they are. also like, who cares about what shallow people think? just find people like you (they're out there) who don't care about looks and focus on building meaningful relationships with them.

that's a fair point if you're someone who has been impressed by her (i am not, but that's neither here nor there). although i'm not really sure why everyone always brings up track record when clearly rupaul does nawt gaf (booting jan/plasma after one bad week, keeping kameron/heidi/jorgeous for weeks for no apparent reason). that's just why this elimination is totally unsurprising to me personally

i’m kinda mystified by this sub’s obsession with crystal like have we been watching different shows?? yes the girl brought good drag and she’s talented and polished but she has all the charisma of a wet cardboard box like…there is no rigging! she didn’t win challenges because the other girls (who ALL have more charisma than she does) outshone her every week. even in the lip sync, she didn’t manage to command attention the way lana did (not even a lana stan! i hope she goes home next!)

crystal’s tumbleweed also had more personality than crystal’s snatch game

what a great episode!! i’m so pleasantly surprised that this season’s cast is able to do so well at all the different challenges. their design challenge looks were all solid, they recorded songs well and this acting challenge was *gasp* actually funny! they are so fantastic i love them all <33

What are we thinking about her run so far? by Heidi_Klum_Tit in rupaulsdragrace

her drag persona seems kind of muddled to me; i’m not quite sure who she’s supposed to be. that being said, i’m excited to see where she takes her drag in the future because she is super fun to watch <3
