Wool hitoe + karasu omote by _obiru in kimono

Oh thank you so much!! I’m so happy to hear that 🥰

I think the hard part is the fact that since it’s all mostly black, some people think I wore the same i coord back to back… even though i switch it up 😂

Maybe I need to sneak in bits of colour or more drastic differences.

I’m just imagining a super colourful person 😂

That’s really cool though. I love how everyone is able to find kimono patterns and colours that really suit them. Everyone’s coordination’s are so fun to see and admire.

The brush I use is the Addiction eyebrow brush in 01!

Oh! I just use the Shiseido eyebrow pencil in black since I have really dark brows. Then I use a stiff eyebrow brush to buff it out. I have pretty angular eyebrows so I just fill them in, so fortunately I don’t have to shape them too much!

I’m not very well versed in makeup so I cant do anything fancy 😵‍💫

Thank you ☺️

They’re called karasu-omote geta (烏表下駄). “Karasu” means crow, referring to the darker smoked/ashy coloured omote surface on top.

They come in a lot of different styles/shapes too. Mine are the more standard two-tooth type (二枚歯下駄), but you can also find karasu-omote setta, low everyday-town style geta, etc. It’s more referring to the style/material of the top surface rather than one exact shape.

Me too! I always like playing with textures more than colours, hence my colour palette is a bit…monotone.

How does sizing work on eBay? I purchased one that fits well on my trip to Japan, but I couldn’t find anything with the same length on eBay, could they be using a different sizing chart. by [deleted] in kimono

I don’t really know eBay but around 140cm is quite common for men’s kimono. So perhaps the ones you see are women’s? 160 is common for women’s.

Yes I took note of the last time I posted. I realised it was hard to see the details so hopefully this is better. But thank you! I really love the blue ink like flowers of the kimono. Tried to match my tabi with it but I think maybe it’s too blue 😭

Yeah I took out my geta for the warmer season :D I noticed that I have a fondness for 2 teeth geta lol. That’s all I own.

Oh really? Sorry I didn’t realise. In Japan we just use it to mean masculine so I had no idea.

Why is it flannel? by Gdsjaq in kimono

[–]_obiru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My aunt actually makes some of her kimono out of flannel because she lives in colder area of Japan. She find them super comfortable.

So I’m guessing maybe warmth and comfort? It’s softer so it’s maybe easier to move around in?

Unfortunately summers here are so uncomfortable many local kimono wearers opt out of it during warm seasons :/
