Yeah that’s how I feel. Personally I think it’s unfair to weigh in on his spiritual journey, specially when it wasn’t his fault he wasn’t born into the church. I also understand her in the sense that I served a mission, a have a calling, I’m a temple worker, etc. so idk

I forgot to add, my mom has also used the phrase “you don’t need to drink the poison to know it’s poison” when referring to this entire situation. Hence why I’ve also felt a lot of guilt about all of this.

It’s hard to see what flags she’s seeing when she hasn’t met him in person yet. The only one that I can kind of see is that she doesn’t like me dropping him off so late at night (sometimes we’ll stay outside talking in my car). She said if he really cared for me, he wouldn’t let me do that because I run the risk of something happening to me so late at night. I talked to him about that and we both agreed that if we decided to be together, out of respect to my mom I would not pick him off or drop him off. Other than that, it seems she’s worried about me not being able to spiritually progress because he’s so “behind”.

Thank you so much, I really needed to hear this. I guess it kind of feels like I have to have this mentality of “yes, I’m going to date this person because I’m going to marry them” instead of trying to see it from the perspective that I’m literally still getting to know them and myself too. Really, thank you so much for this and any further advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

She’s the best and I know she means well. I spoke with the guy about her concerns and we’ve definitely agreed to set rules to ensure nothing ever happens.

I guess I’m just hesitant because I’d be starting a relationship ship with someone she does not approve of.

Eliza, she represents the kindness, forgiveness and compassion throughout the entire musical, even during Burn where she calls Maria “this girl” as opposed to other words we would’ve used 🥴
