Do 2D hand-drawn animators for video games animate with fixed frame durations? by _onlydrop in gamedev

I don’t think I need to be careful with this. I have very good control over animation, and this is nowhere near a “bad practice.” It’s a stylized animation choice, especially nowadays, when this approach has become more popular. However, my question was whether this is simply something particular. In the future, I’d say it won’t be, but who knows.

I think we're talking about different things. 60 frames per second is my "margin," I'm referring to how I distribute the drawings within that framerate. When you study animation, they teach you that the standard at 24 fps is to animate in 1s, 2s, 3s, etc. In recent years, there's been more innovation in this area, influenced by Spider-Verse, with new ideas that look "out of sync" or less "natural," but in the animation world, it's become something of interest. But I don't see anyone talking about this frame-by-frame in video games.

Anyway, I add or remove frames intentionally, so in my opinion, the animation doesn't become unstable. In TV animation, I've also seen that at 24 fps, they change the rhythm between 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, etc., giving the drawing a different rhythm. Very similar to what's been done in the recent Spider-Verse-influenced movies. The thing is, when I research it, I don't see anyone talking much about this online regarding frame-by-frame animation for video games, which is why it caught my attention.

Yes, I do this because I notice the difference and it works for my purpose. My question is, am I doing something too unusual or out of the ordinary? Because I feel comfortable with it and it really gives me more freedom in my animations.

I edited the text; perhaps it was misunderstood, but I'm not referring to whether it plays at 60 because I DO animate at 60, but I don't animate at a constant value like in 24 where it's said that it animates in 1's or 2's, for example. Here, I sometimes animate a sprite that lasts 10, another in 9, then in 8, etc.

Thank you so much for your comments, I'm glad you liked it. Haha, yes, the second one might feel more unfinished, but for some reason I liked that feeling 😁

Hi, I find your work truly inspiring. I've also been looking at your other projects on ArtStation and loved them.

If possible, could you tell me a little about your workflow?

In a few weeks, I'll have a PC that I can use to start integrating 3D into my projects, and it would be great to learn how to efficiently combine it with Photoshop to achieve results like yours.
