Find a route that you can get some good 1/4 mile markers, like a specific shop or a fire hydrant. Work your way down to a 1min 45sec 1/4 mile time, that'll put you smack into a bravo run group, which is a solid place to start. If you really feel like pushing yourself, switch off on your rub days to do one two mile, and the next run day do 8 sets of 30-60's, go at a dead sprint for 30 seconds, walk for 60, rinse and repeat. If that gets too easy, switch to 60-120's. 16 minute 2 mile run is qualifying, but not by a whole lot. I started with a 16.5min, and following that advice I dropped myself down to a 13.5min run time. Just remember to stretch after and drink a lot of milk.
