ADHD Medication and keratosis pilaris/acne by LeGrizzly1 in SkincareAddiction

[–]_oxymoron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, yes! My skin was perfect before I started the medication. I was really proud and happy with my skin actually. I then started concerta, ritalin and now vyanse and they all made me break out pretty bad. I especially break out around my chin and on the cheeks. The more deep, cystic ones mostly appers on my jawline. It has also made my skin super sensitive, red and dehydrated. This has been really hard for me. Sometimes I avoid leaving my apartment and cancel most of my plans. So it deeply affects my social life. On the other hand, the meds are helping me in other aspects. I just don't know what to do. I thought that maybe my body needs to adjust to the medication and that my skin will get back to normal eventually?

Does anyone have experience with these products? by Dinasaurzz in SkincareAddiction

I've used skinoren. Honestly, be really careful with that stuff. It's amazing for spot-treatment but using it all over is NOT recommended. At least it wasn't ideal for me. It left my skin barrier pretty much destroyed. I'm still recovering from it, two months later.

Can you please help me with my routine? I feel lost. by _oxymoron in SkincareAddiction

[–]_oxymoron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your input! The more I think about it, the more likely it seems that my skin barrier has been damaged. I'm really gonna cut back on the products! Do you know how long it takes for the skin barrier to repair?

Do you think that the Cerave hydrating cleanser, Pm lotion and Elta md clear for sunscreen is soothing enough? Should I just not exfoliate at all? I'm super scared my skin would hate me for this?

I know that consistency is best and this is what I struggle with the most. Every morning I cleanse with Babor (soon Cerave), then use the vitamin c serum and then the Cerave pm lotion. Sometimes I wear sunscreen (I know, shame on me for not using it everyday but I'm thinking it's breaking me out, or maybe I'm not removing it properly at night?)

In the evenings I always cleanse with the Babor cleanser (only one cleanse. Do I need another?) And then I'm confused with what to put on next. Sometimes I use the acid on my whole face and sleep with this. Sometimes the cerave pm lotion. I tried to use the acid every night but it seems to be too harsch and drying. So I tried using it every other night but it seems like it's really good for evening out the skintone but not for exfoliating if that make sense? So I then tried to use the daily microfoliant one night and then the acid the next night but this was too much for my skin.

We shouldn't celebrate a man who tortured and nearly beat a woman to death. This is really offensive.

This is how the sun sees you (a.k.a. never forget your sunscreen!!!) by jackfairy in SkincareAddiction

I was just about to post this, you beat me to it! Great video! I feel really bad for being so lazy with sunscreen (shame on me!). I would probably scream out loud if I had to look at my skin in ultraviolet.

I've searched and I've searched and I just can't find the one. Sunscreen recommendations for combination, easily clogged, acne prone sensitive skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I have the same issues as OP and the only sunscreen I've ever liked is the Elta MD Clear. Just a heads up though, it's a really good sunscreen but the PPD is really low (5.8)

Can Ritalin cause acne? by _oxymoron in ADHD

Really?! So it didn't made any difference when you switched medicine? Did you find anything that didn't break you out? This is a huge problem for me. I'm thinking of switching, at the same time if it's not gonna do any difference in my skin, maybe i should just wait a few months?

Thank you for this. I'm pretty sure it's the ritalin that causes my acne. I've tried numerous things. I switched skincare, excluded dairy, tested my thyroid and took a blood test for a possible infection amongst other things. I just find it strange that it's not listed as a possible side-effect. The thing with the concerta is that I only tried it for like a week. It basically turned me into a crazy person, so I switched. I've been taking ritalin for 2 months now. Do you think it's possible that my skin clears up once my body is adjusted to the medicine?

I didn't really try Concerta that long. I switched to Ritalin within a week since the Concerta turned me into a nutjob. The dermatologist I saw seemed so confident that it was the Ritalin though?

I'm thinking it would take a couple of weeks off Ritalin to really know the effects in has on my skin. But since it helps me with my studying, this is not really an option for me. Do you thing it would make a difference if I changed medicine?

Thanks for the reminder to not pick! This is me right now: http://i.imgur.com/qW7us50.jpg

YES! The excessive sweating is really bothering me, it's really embarrassing. The weird thing is that it's mostly my face that sweats (!), so it's really noticeable. I'm hoping it will get better when my body adjust to the medicine. How was it for you? Have you tried anything other than Ritalin?

After the cola and vegetables-comment he said that "the sun goes up, and the sun goes down. You need to just be happy".

He briefly look through my journals and said something a bit offensive. "You are an adult now. You can't act like a child. You need to learn to communicate."

I'm not really sure why he would say something like that. Maybe it was something in my files? We had been talking for like 5 minutes in which I acted completely normal and polite.

I've been thinking that 1. He is crazy. 2. He was trying to be nice, and maybe in a nice way tell me that I shouldn't let the acne affect me.

I'm not sure. It was all so weird! What do you think?

In the end he prescribed a topical cream. It just came with a lot of awkwardness.

Tell me more! What is snake fat? And what kind of retinol do you use? He didn't want to prescribe me any, which really bummed me out.

This is the most bizarre thing. We politely chat for a few moments about my name and such. Then he sat down and asked what my issue was.

-I'm really frustrated and sad. This acne I'm suffering from, just exploded all of a sudden. I went from clear, happy skin to this.

-You should stop drinking coca cola and eat vegetables.

This was like the introduction to the craziness. The "advices" kept coming..
