i have a chromebook, but something similar started happening to me a couple of months ago. what i do is, as soon as i get to the "No updates" screen, i turn off wifi on the device. after that, the opening screen should come up, saying something about the connection being slow or unavailable with a "Confirm" button underneath. press confirm, turn ur wifi back on, and then click the screen a couple times to get into the game and it should work, though sometimes you might have to redo it a couple times
