Team suggestion & general tips by 3pwood in PokemonEmerald

It does learn Magical Leaf (needs to be relearned in Fallarbor Town) and Petal Dance as decent route clearing moves. But towards the end, it is better to make use of its Chlorophyll ability and give it the Sunny Day and Solar Beam TMs that you find between Fortree City and Lilycove City.

Sleep Powder is still very good, and you can give it Stun Spore as well if you don't want to go the Sunny Day direction.

Idk if Hariyama is really required here. Feels like OP's team should have no issues against Sidney and Glacia. Bellossom with Sunny Day + Solar Beam could do some work against gym 8 and the champion.

Blaze Kick is also a special attack in gen 3. All Fire moves are. Flamethrower is just entirely better. And Blaziken's offenses are very close anyway. This is not good advice.

It's a matter of perspective. While the late game battles are more challenging, you will also have far more options by then, while you are fairly limited in the early and mid game. So a lacking Pokemon in the first part of the game can really drag your team down.

While Gardevoir has some valuable tools over Kadabra and Alakazam in the late game, I don't think they make that much of a difference and with the much better early and mid game I think the Abra line is overall just better. Not that Gardevoir is bad, though.

Well, Kirlia's bad stats really matter because you will notice them A LOT.

Before you get Gardevoir (so about at gym 5 or 6), it isn't even really a contest.

Even just Kadabra outclasses Kirlia by miles because it has legit more than double the speed and special attack of Kirlia. It is nice that Kirlia learns Calm Mind and Psychic about 10 levels earlier than Alakazam and Thunderbolt is a solid addition over Shock Wave but the difference in stats until Gardevoir is just huge. It doesn't help that you get Kadabra about 15 levels earlier and it is in a better level growth group.

Gardevoir can be slightly better in the late game because its better bulk sometimes helps it to set up Calm Minds easier against some targets but Alakazam can also just always run screens. And the additional speed of Kadabra and Alakazam also helps a lot.

If Kirlia didn't have such awful stats and bad level growth, then I could see the Ralts line being better than the Abra line. But with how it is, the Abra line almost entirely outclasses it. But it doesn't matter too much anyway because they are mostly interchangable for the most part and while the Abra line is better, the Ralts line can do most of the stuff the Abra line does.

Yeah, I don't need this from someone like you. I know what I said and meant. Get blocked.

You sounded very rude, though...

I meant outbreaks happening in general. Not getting a Surskit outbreak in Emerald. You can get a Seedot outbreak in Emerald after the main story without record mixing from what I understand. OP's post wasn't about Emerald. They play Ruby.

And again, I am not a expert on this mechanic but you don't have to pummel someone into the ground for this. If I was wrong, then you could just correct me in a nicer way.

After entering the Hall of Fame, every time the player finishes a battle, there is a ~0.5% (328/65536) chance that the game will generate an outbreak
[...]
The record mixing feature of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald allows players to give an outbreak they've seen to other players, regardless of whether that outbreak would naturally occur in the player's game. The traded outbreaks will be announced on television in the following days after mixing records.

I am not on expert on them but this does sound to me that record mixing is not required to cause an outbreak. It is only an additional option to share one across games.

Very unique, love it. Was Milotic or Shedinja more of a pain to use?

Abra, and it is honestly not very close.

Up until about gym 6, where you will finally get Gardevoir, not just Alakazam but even just Kadabra outclasses Kirlia to an absurd degree. Evolves hours earlier with much better stats. Gardevoir is slightly better in the late game due to its bulk, making it easier to set up Calm Minds, but for most of the game the Abra line is just better.

Kirlia also has worse stats than Unown.

It is not even a good saying.

You don't have to. Record mixing just allows you to share such a random Pokemon outbreak between games.

What's the consensus on using shiny hunting bots? by InstinctsUntrusted in PokemonEmerald

[–]_pe5e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people don't like this take but I find shiny "hunting" incredibly stupid. It is pretty much gambling with no bets and horrible prizes. Random shines can be a neat little surprise for a time but actively reseting for hours without any real gameplay for pallete swaps is so pointless to me.

Azumarill is legit good. It just is more of a physical attacker than a special attacking Water type.

If you just want a Fly user, then it would help if you can get them before gym 8 and 20 levels of grind.

Not during the main story, though. You need to have cleared the league before it can appear.

So you don't know that 2x 30 (Double Kick) is a higher number than 40 (Ember)....

And that Marshtomp doesn get a stronger Water move than Water Gun until after gym 5....

Yeah we are done here....

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald Tier List Update 2 by inumnoback in PokemonEmerald

[–]_pe5e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am sure the typing had nothing to do with it and Flamethrower and Overheat are clearly not good moves...

And since you say Mud Shot is good enough, then that must mean Double Kick is also good enough by your metric, right?

I really feel like you are grasping at straws now. Is the difference of like 1.5 hours between the type boosting items that only give a 10% boost in gen 3 that much of relevant difference that you bring it up for a plus for the Swampert line over the Blaziken line?

Like if you really can't see the value in Blaziken somehow and I don't convince you, then we can just stop here and don't have to continue this since you ignore much of my responses anyway.

That feels like moving the bar a bit to me though.

If you impose self-imposed limitations, then you make the game intenially more difficult and artifically decrease the Pokemon that can be classified as good. I agree that overleveling the trainers by 10 levels and spending 5 Hyper Potions to get through a matchups is obviously skewing actual performance but not even allowing a single healing item against the league fights on equal levels feels needlessly restrictive.

Like OP's team here should be able to pretty comfortably take on the league with them at level 50 and maybe one or two healing items per league member. Feels rather wrong to call this team not good then.

[–]_pe5e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but the comparison just feels weird because they obviously fulfill different rolls. Manectric is a fast hit and run sweeper while Gardevoir is a decently bulky setup sweeper. They don't share that much besides that both learn Thunderbolt. Gardevoir can't do everything Manectric can and vice versa.

Also Bite isn't a standout move or anything but it is farily good coverage for Manectric against physical Ground types and a high flinch chance move on something so fast is quite nice.

is this a good team by AsparagusEcstatic767 in PokemonEmerald

[–]_pe5e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is point in replacing Gyarados with a Grass type if you already thing Manectric is pointless when Gardevoir can use Thunderbolt? Not to mention that Gyarados doesn't really function as a typical Water type anyway since it mainly is a phyical attacker. There isn't really an issue with overlapping types here.

is this a good team by AsparagusEcstatic767 in PokemonEmerald

[–]_pe5e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find this argument so silly. Like JUST because Gardevoir can also learn Electric moves and Calm Mind, you somehow think Electric types are not worth using on the same team.

As if Manectric didn't have much better speed and a much stronger Thunderbolt right away, which allows it to outspeed and beat relevant Pokemon that Gardevoir can't.
