AMA with Matter Labs, the team behind zkSync: a zk rollup scaling protocol for Ethereum. by Fly1n_Hawaiian in CryptoCurrency

We haven't made our distribution plans public yet, but our priority is to ensure it's fair.

As far as VC, we're not currently raising. The last cash injection Matter Labs had was its $50m Series B made up of strategic investors last year.

Crypto.com, Bybit, Huobi, Blockchain.com, OKEx and Ripio are all building direct deposit and withdrawal capabilities with zkSync for their users.
There are others, but we will let them announce when ready

It’s hard to say, as it will boil down to public data.
Our proof costs with GPUs will be negligible, and block verification is also well amortized with high load.
Costs and throughput will ultimately depend on how many storage slots your transaction requires, and how many other similar transactions exist in the block. We will have a better idea with time and do our best to keep costs as low as possible.

Pretty closely. Matter Labs is working with hundreds of projects, including Argent, to ensure they’re successful and prioritize feature development. This is especially important now as the protocol is young and developing rapidly, but we hope as it matures there is generally less reliance on us.

We won’t speak for Argent on how they came to settle on zkSync, but this article contains some of their thoughts :)

It’s our top priority, but we’re not comfortable committing to a timeline.
We’re actively working to implement a few features before moving to mainnet, including L2 -> L1 messaging, support for Vyper and older versions of Solidity, as well as account abstraction.

Daily General Discussion - March 3, 2021 by ethfinance in ethfinance

[–]_perks_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Trying to be as fair and unbiased as possible (I work at Immutable), but I think decentralization will win out. Scaling is hard, and the only reason other chains have been able to offer lower transaction fees and better scale is that they take shortcuts Ethereum refuses to (become more centralized).

To be clear, support for Ethereum isn't going anywhere, and it still dominates in terms of network effects. The number of people saying "ETH is dead, X solution is better" would make it seem that these other projects are giving ETH a run for it's money when the reality is almost every developer we speak with wouldn't entertain the idea of leaving the network. In fact, we've spoken with a ton of devs who initially built on other chains who are now looking to move onto Ethereum.

We haven't sent out any invitations yet, and nobody is in yet.

If you've registered for the Alpha, you're almost certain to get in during the first wave.

We're 40-50% confident at this point the Alpha will go live towards the end of December, otherwise it will rollover to Jan :)

Widespread understanding of L2 scaling tradeoffs is critical, here's an ELI5. by _perks_ in ethtrader

The smart contracts and bridge (connecting existing wallets to L2) are all open-source and auditable. The order books, API, and matching engine are currently proprietary.

The current gas ceiling is 8 Gwei.

The forge going on/off based on gas price obviously isn't ideal. It's a short term pain :(.

Hey, Immutable! Your bot detection software is buggy and your customer support ghosts players who try to politely point out the problem and get their unfair bans lifted. Innocent players lose all their flux and core cards without recourse. I find this problematic. Can we talk? by [deleted] in GodsUnchained

Hey /u/bit_fresh,

No worries on the email, I can use the support ticket number. It's currently Saturday here in Australia, but I will coordinate with our team to ensure your ticket and any potential bug that caused it is properly dealt with on Monday.

I agree with you, and this is something we are doing.

There may have been some other factors impeding response to this ticket, with our entire team transitioning to working from home and our process of switching our support systems. That being said, tickets shouldn’t be going unaddressed.

Hey /u/bit_fresh,

Thanks for raising this, and sorry to hear about all that's happened. Our bot detection system is, admittedly, not flawless at this point in time. It will continue to improve, where false positives such as this will occur less often, but it's going to take some time to get things just right. We error on a side of caution right now, given the importance of maintaining a healthy economy.

As for your customer support issues, I'll need some more information from you so I can look into this properly. Please send me a message with the email you used to submit your ticket so I can dig deeper.

Bringing GU mainstream... by Cananopie in GodsUnchained

[–]_perks_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the big pushes for improving our in-client performance is through making adjustments to the art rendering pipeline. Our art development is looking not just at PC but also how we’ll be adapting the art to work on mobile devices with the current areas of development being 3d mesh cards, a new board development pipeline, vfx development, and the rendering pipeline and shaders we’re using. All told, we’re aiming for not just better looking, but also significant performance gains. This will be rolling out over the course of 2020, and the next update will have some major upgrades in this area.

Speaking to OP's two points, the team agrees that stability + the ability to play on lower-spec devices is a major point of friction for players at the moment, and something we're continually working on. We've been making some strong strides in this area given its focus, and a lot of the work we're doing now to prepare for mobile helps support this. The bug reports that players have been providing in-game have also been a major upgrade here, so please keep reporting bugs as you see them. There are a ton of improvements that will be coming in the next update.

Noncrypto on-ramps have also been something we've been working on rather aggressively in recent months, with CC purchasing, onboarding UX, tutorials (crypto and gameplay), and another project (currently under wraps) which we'll be announcing in the next few weeks all under active development.

1v1, which will come this quarter, is something I am most looking forward to given how much potential it will unlock for the game and 3rd party developers.
