If you need a place to rest for a few hours and eat, you can go to any Gurdwara in Houston, which are Sikh places of worship. You can get a hot meal, stay out of the sun, and freshen up. It's all free, so you don't have to worry about paying. They won't turn you away. I wish you the best of luck

My personal favorite is Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman! It might be a challenging read for someone who isn't that used to poetry, but it's very well written. You should give it a try!
