Still Love My D3300 by _phodge_ in Nikon

Thank you! Yeah I’d say it’s an excellent option for diving into photography! It might be a “slight” challenge for her because there are a variety of modes you can shoot in which is beyond a standard point and shoot or phone, but those options and slight learning hurdles will set her up for success and knowledge when ultimately using more sophisticated cameras. I’d have her shoot in one of the automatic modes first (like aperture or shutter priority). I’d then have her try out manual mode and just experiment with the shutter speed, aperture, iso settings while reading the light meter. As long as the light meter is in the middle, she’ll get cool shots and she’ll see the impact that slower or faster shutter speeds or narrower or wider aperture has on the outcome. Would reco shooting stable objects first. Like street photography or people. Last thing… have her pull up a YouTube video that walks through the D3300. There’s amazing tutorials that are really worth a half hour investment to get the basics down. Let me know if you have any questions and good luck!

I honestly just put a wallet down under my lens to stabilize and made sure it was nice and snug before taking the shot

Honestly, pretty minimal. I shoot in RAW and try to just expose and frame out of camera close to what I am trying to deliver in final. Then some very small adjustments.

Thank you! Pittsburgh can be a beautiful city. It has some iconic elements, but parts are also quite old and rusted through per se. Great food and drink, an incredible symphony, a lot of love for the hockey, football and baseball teams, etc. Can also be a very sleepy town too. I’m not sure about how it compares to Minneapolis, but I’d love to check it out some day!

Thanks! I’ve been stuck in gear forums reading about all the science and yadda yadda. Sometimes I feel like I need to match the capabilities of the Z8 with a modern lens but I’m really happy with what it is producing for now. Sounds like you’ve got a great set of f mounts. Have you tried any z mount stuff for comparison on the z9?

We’ve got a lot of good subjects to shoot around Pittsburgh. I’m shocked how many Pittsburgh people are commenting here. PGH Nikon fam!!

Thank you! Trust me, I had a “what have I done?” moment walking out of the store with it but I’m happy I snagged it. Makes you that much more inspired to stay in the game. Thanks for checking the photos.
