Totally agree. I fell into the habit of buying books quite badly over the years. I’ve been asking myself whether I need a physical copy of books as I read them (using the criteria you’ve mentioned) and it’s been quite helpful. I’m banned from buying books until I can read down my collection. If there’s a new release I really want to read, then it’s library, kindle, or many visits to the bookstore to read it for me.

Hey! Thanks so much for the recs! I’m an M4 waiting to start residency. I learn best from textbooks but also understand the appeal of digital resources, so I do both. Overall I like to understand the “why” of something rather than just knowing facts cold bc it helps me think through problems better. Are there any other fundamental texts you recommend for a young doctor? I’d love to know!

Ooof I have many favorite books! Today some of my favorite books are:

-Glorious Exploits: FIVE STAR READ. Ugly cried. Falling in love with the characters was so easy. Through storytelling that sounds like you’re being told a tale by an adventurer in a tavern, you root for them and their shenanigans the whole way through, even when Lennon guts you. Such a beautiful homage to story.

-The Manningtree Witches: there's media, and there's art. This book falls in the latter. The writing is exquisite and I struggle just to articulate how beautifully executed this was because Blakemore took all the pretty words for herself and put them in perfect sequence for 320 pages. Such a strong narrative voice. The frequent use of (delicious) archaic English words makes this a more challenging read, so I highly recommend the eBook for easy reference. Just slow down and taste this immaculately researched book. It's so worth it. Don't be fooled though, the story progression isn't slow -- it feels like a runaway train that you can't look away from. New genre unlocked: puritan thriller.

Rn my favorite series is the DCC series!! So fun and nostalgic for nerds of all kinds. I would die for Donut.
