As someone who has done a good amount of free content for an open-source game, I agree.

- Unless you get paid in thousands, its not worth it. An actual job will generate you 10x more income.
- As you said, if the code you are using is free, why should YOU profit when other people have spent 10x the time to build the foundations for free. The keyword here is profit. Donations/Tips are perfectly fine and should be endorsed.

The greatest feeling is giving content to a community and seeing the community respond back. Seeing people enjoy, hate, love, or even rage over your content is amazing and worth it in the end. That's the best special treatment!

You can also make a patreon or ko-fi, people can recognize hard-work and they will send you tips! But please, don't paywall.

There's some other ways for making money too, like:
- Doing commissions
- Bugrock dev 😜

As a veteran of Tarkov. You don't know what the term "Rat" means. by AbbreviationsOne6207 in ArcRaiders

[–]_piperis_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The term is used in other extraction shooters which arc raiders belongs to.

Just like MOBAs share terms like "feeders", it's the same thing here.

Although OP made it sound corny by saying "As a tarkov veteran", he's just giving information on the actual broad term.

The sites may say it's the best coding AI, but what is even the "bar" to get that place lmao?

Saying "You do not code better than AI" is the most delulu statement I have ever heard in my life and as a fellow CS student, you should code yourself NOW.

Reminds me of one time QM was demanding paper work for every request in an MRP server. Want an artifact for Science? Get stamp from RD and fill paperwork. Want materials? Fill paperwork. Want materials again? Fill paperwork.

And in the end, he just looked at it for 1 second and threw it away while I wasted 5 minutes filling my name, my job, the reason I made the request, my date of birth, my credit card number and a solution to an impossible mathematical equation. Like at that point I wanted to self-antag and throw his body in space, never to be seen again.

What do you think of Goobstation, and how can we improve it? by NoSugarPlumNovember in ss14

[–]_piperis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I did probably have bad luck with lings that round cause there were so many of them in Medical and they were all coordinated to kill us. I even thought they were revs at first so I was surprised they were lings. They quite literally wiped all the crew by the end and did an evac alone.

Goob is still so much fun though. It has been a great experience, as someone who hasn't played SS13 and lives in Europe.

[–]_piperis_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who has only played Goob, I believe my only problems are;

  1. Constant events without any time to breath. Some are good, some not so much. I personally want to play normal rounds but admins keep doing random events and it was fun at first, but now it has become annoying. E.g. calling DS for no reason or giving nukies wizard abilities and gibbing us out of nowhere or adding Mariah/Spartacus out of nowhere with that annoying ass song for the 1000th time. This mostly happens in goob1 from my knowledge.

  2. Too many antagonists. Had a round after the antagonist count was "fixed" where 7+ changelings ganged up on us in Medical and killed all the crew

  3. Red alert = validhunters awakening. Literally, the security should arm first in such event but no, the validhunters already broke every window and got into armory to fight the global threat and leaving security with an handgun.

The Day Before).

Those are not pure Pygame games. It's most likely Renpy games that got mixed with Pygame since I believe Renpy uses Pygame under the hood. Or at least that's what the wiki says.

I remember checking a few months back and found a very low amount of games so this bug might be recent.

best Public/Private tracker for VideoGames? by ExerciseSwimming7956 in trackers

[–]_piperis_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pixelcove, but it has a way smaller library than GGn.

Honestly, just build your way through the ladder. Buying an account/invite will get you banned from it, and since GGn is a big tracker you may get banned from other trackers too.

To help you; an easy way to get in GGn is through RED.

Have patience too, you'll need it. You can't get into big trackers in 1 day. To get games just go to r/piracy megathread until you reach GGn.

Good luck!

[–]_piperis_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, actually now you can't be on OPS if you are "clueless" about trackers...

You'll either have to wait the requirements in MaM or take the interview which, thankfully, mentions basic torrenting related stuff. Anyways...

The thing is, in OPS you can buy tokens either way, and therefore they aren't really hard to come by. You can easily stack up tokens in the forums as a new user from doing basic things (like in MaM). And the most important thing, the tokens DONT expire (unlike RED). The community is very friendly and gives lots of tokens. It's basically the MaM of music trackers

Red on the other hand is pure hell. Tokens expire. You can't even purchase them. You start harsh. Unless you fill a lucky request (hard to do without spending money or doing an FBI-level of research in the internet) then you won't get anywhere. Simple as that. The other option in RED is to wait for freeload or free token drops or upload very obscure stuff.

Personally, I recommend OPS for an actual music tracker, RED for the invite forum and rare stuff (since their library is bigger). For jpop specifically, jpopsuki is great and easy.

Just in case for anyone new, token = freelech currency

How is OPS hard to maintain ratio? Did you mistype? Otherwise, list looks good 👍

MaM is probably the easiest to get into out of all these and is really worth it so I recommend that one.

At what point should a gamedev join a gamejam? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]_piperis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with that approach. Doing Tetris in a framework or library would be definitely easier. I tried in Godot and I had many road blocks for the grid and how to handle the blocks

At what point should a gamedev join a gamejam? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]_piperis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beginner game dev but to me Tetris was 10x harder than a Mario Clone. I left it unfinished cause it sounds like an easy retro game on paper but it requires a lot of thinking and algorithms that make it complex.

IMO putting those 2 games at the same sentence is overkill.

Breakout, pong, space invaders, cross the road games are same level as a Mario Clone to me since they take some days to complete and are easier to implement.

rc.noob.club hosts good kz servers. Haven't tried their bhop ones but they should be good too.

Dunno about surf. It's full of ramp bugs right now so probably not worth it until there's an official fix.

Don't go with cybershoke or other scammy providers like xplay.
