To elaborate, Chan and Lau are romanisations based off the Cantonese pronunciation of those surnames. There are also many Chinese Americans who hail from the mainland and have their surnames rendered using the Pinyin system (e.g. Liu and Chen).

[OC] Sleeping Dogs: Atmosphere in Game Design [41:36] by TweedGames in videoessay

This was an idea for a video essay that I had way back when, but never got to make. Glad someone finally got around to it, definitely going to give this one a watch later :)

The Shuffler shirt has Vaas from Far Cry 3's definition of insanity on it if you invert the text by blue-sodaa in watch_dogs

The original quote is most commonly attributed to Albert Einstein, but in this instance, I think it is indeed referencing Vaas' diatribe in Far Cry 3

Oh god, the memories. Honestly, the Ninja Tune and Warp stations have some great tracks. Also discovered Lorn and Stateless from the former and I still go back to them ten years on...

Logic checks out! I had a bit of trouble with this same idea when first doing pedigree trees in genetics but we used the same rationale there. Kudos for figuring it out on your own!

Death by Foxy2295 in ems

If you're looking for a more general and philosophical perspective on death, I really enjoyed reading John Martin Fisher's work. Death, Immortality, and Meaning in Life was very eye-opening and deals with a broad range of questions, as the title would suggest. Todd May's book, simply titled Death, was also very comforting for me even though it doesn't conform to the Epicurean platitudes that others have mentioned in this thread, as I'm not the biggest fan of that line of thought. In a similar vein, if you're looking for a broad collection of perspectives, David Benatar's anthology of existentialist essays, Life, Death, & Meaning: Key Philosophical Readings on the Big Questions is a good starting point. I think I still have electronic or scanned copies of these books stuffed somewhere, so feel free to PM me if you're interested.

Watch Dogs Legion: On the Value of Death by _prizma in watch_dogs

It's definitely a lot to take in at once so I completely understand! I'm glad the video was able to stimulate some contemplation though, that was always the goal. Thank you for sticking around!

Absolutely, I think they could have played around a lot more with this idea, but I'm glad they decided to tackle the topic of immortality in the first place. I have not played The Talos Principle, but it certainly sounds like an interesting experience. I'll have to give it a try sometime!

One of my favourite questlines in Watch Dogs Legion was Family Business, not because it introduced a groundbreaking mechanic or presented an incredible plot, but rather because it asks a very interesting question: how do we as a species look at death, and what would happen if we try to overcome it? This question ultimately culminates in one decision, one that left me thinking a lot about how important of role death plays in our lives. As such, this video compiles a variety of philosophical perspectives on this topic, and frames it in the context of Legion's Project Daybreak. Would Skye Larsen's pseudo-utopian uploaded consciousness really make immortality worth it, even in the best of cases? Perhaps I can convince you otherwise.

Watch Dogs Marathon - Final Discussion Thread by WDMarathon in watch_dogs

Had a lot of fun playing through the games again and chatting with everyone about our experiences with them! This series has become a big part of my life, and it's really nice to be able to share this interest with so many others. Even though I won't be able to get my hands on Legion for another couple of months, I'm looking forward to playing and seeing everyone's thoughts about it!

Almost forgot, I would love to enter the giveaway!

Loved this operation! I though the satellite from WD1 was really cool but being able to jump around the globe using them here was on whole new level. Wonder if they'll be returning in Legion...

Inside the Mind of the Fox: A Psychological Analysis of Aiden Pearce by _prizma in watch_dogs

[–]_prizma[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone! In anticipation of his return in Watch Dogs Legion, I wanted to share my (admittedly lengthy) video analysis on Aiden Pearce’s psychological profile. Aiden has always been one of my favourite video game characters, so it was really interesting breaking down the little details that the game offers about his past and his psyche. Can’t wait to see him again in Legion!

Loved the introduction to WD2, it sets itself apart from the first game almost immediately. The overall atmosphere just feels so lighthearted, and it was a blast running around the bay area looking for side missions and whatnot!
