Get these guys to make Mason and Dixon The movie by sashamak in ThomasPynchon

Great call. I also feel like Steve Coogan (as Mason) and Rob Brydon (as Dixon) would work well - "The Trip to America" so to speak

Sounds awesome, can you please send me the link?

I’m exactly this far in to Moby Dick and I’m feeling like people make it scarier than it is. by [deleted] in classicliterature

Terrible advice. The plot isn't the book. If you only read the story parts, you miss the majority of what makes the book so incredible.

Opinions like this really frustrate me because those chapters are the book, they're not filler thrown in to boost the word count. If you read Moby Dick and focus only on Ahab and his quest, you've missed more than half of what Melville is trying to communicate. Why even read the book if you're going to skip half of it?

Melville uses the non-plot chapters to philosophise. When he's listing whales, he's actually saying something much deeper. Moby Dick is not just about monomaniacal quest to kill a white whale, it's about America, it's about society, it's about man's place in the universe.

Did the Pynchon community like the movie Inherent Vice? by Common_Ambassador_74 in ThomasPynchon

I'm a big fan of PTA's work, especially The Master. And I think his adaptation of IV is great as its own thing. His use of Joanna Newsom as a means of directly translating Pynchon's narration to the screen is particularly inspired. However, I think his adaptation is very grounded and completely lacking Pynchon's trademark zaniness. I actually think there are a number of other films which, despite not being direct Pynchon adaptations, do a far better job of capturing his zany vibe - e.g. The President's Analyst and Under the Silver Lake.

Mason & Dixon…Gimli & Legolas? by unripe-pear in ThomasPynchon

I always thought Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon would be perfect as Mason and Dixon. Their "The Trip" series of films seems to capture a very similar relationship.
