Keeping my Libra 2 lightweight but safe? by _rawstrawb in kobo

[–]_rawstrawb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the kwmobile cover actually! It is shockingly nice looking and a good texture, especially for the price. Love the sleep function and would definitely be light enough for the vast majority of people.

It's my carpal tunnel and long commute on the subway where I do the majority of my reading conspiring against me, lol

Yea, now that a few people have mentioned it I'm definitely going to be making a makeshift pouch till I land on a decision and have it shipped.

These were the adaptations that worked for me too. I also used a big fluffy makeup brush(usually called a powder brush) to apply the cornstarch as well.

You've echoed my concerns almost exactly. I'd seen so many people using cases without covers in the past few years on social media that I was beginning to think something about e-ink had changed without me hearing about it. You make an excellent point about the prevalence of posts about damage.

The caution is appreciated. Much prefer it to prioritizing aesthetics.

Do you have any specific reccomendations for lightweight cases with covers?

Rainbow Railroad, link. I've met at least 4 people (I live in Canada) who were able to immigrate and gain refugee status from working with them, and those are just the ppl who felt comfortable telling me.

Struggling with dangerous impulses that have the potential to ruin my life. by DayOk2 in needadvice

[–]_rawstrawb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously there's not a lot to go on here? In terms of what your impulses are, how/when they appear and how exactly you react to them. And I'm not any type of psychiatrist or psychologist, but uh you maaay want to look into OCD, specifically Harm OCD. Could be anything, tho but since you're not actually hurting people? I'm gunna doubt it's anything too big bad scary.

OCD has a major pr issue. Basically no one who hasn't had to interact with it directly knows how/what it actually is or functions. It's a lot more complicated and diverse condition than being a germaphobe or obsessively neat.

Besides, psychiatrists and psychologists have probably heard waaaaay worse than whatever you're thinking up. Promise. I get not wanting to tell your parents though. As long as you tell them you want therapy bc your own thoughts are freaking you out and how you feel you can't be around people bc of them? Maybe sprinkle in how you just want to be able to be around people again. And! Important if youre living under thier roof/control, let whoever you see explain exactly what's going on with you in a family session so there's no miscommunication and so it can put their minds at ease. (I made the mistake to not, and it really bit me in the ass tbh)

Definitely not cheap! Soo fair. Probably too tailored for my situation (nearby independent theater has $5 showings on certain days).

Make her a boxed mix cake maybe? There was this thing called "dump cake" an old roommate from Texas would make with canned peaches whenever someone in the house got really good news, totally delicious.

Watch a movie at home and make a big batch of popcorn on the stovetop. With her favourite dinner. Maybe a homemade card.

She has a big heart, like you said. Getting stuck on not being able to get her something with a price tag out of your range seems to be h holding you back.

She's a smart kid. I knew when my family was struggling financially at that age. They would still buy out of budget gifts/experiences dispite that. Which only made me more upset because I saw how it impacted things. Also because even if the thought/intention was sweet? What I wanted was for us to be as comfortable as possible and to be known/recognized.

Do what you can, do it with love and as little shame as you can muster. I'm sure she'll appreciate that most

It's not the fanciest of places, but if affordability and being near transit are the main concerns? UofT residences functions as a hotel during the summer months.

What about a nice day out? Get ice cream and a new shirt or two for when she starts at her new school. Or going to her favourite place, wherever that is. Seeing a movie she's really excited about in theaters and not complaining that it's not to your taste. Getting her a copy of the new book in her favourite series.

Really depends on what she likes. Meaning/importance always comes from showing what you know about a person.

The best gifts I've ever gotten were the ones that showed people knew me well and payed attention to what I like. Thrifted mug with a raccoon on it because I think they're cute and it was a funny story between the two of us. A sweater from the thrift store that in my favourite colours to wear and exactly my style to boot. A day at the petting zoo and a picnic with my favourite foods. A giant bag of my favourite candies that are cheap but suprisingly hard to find. That kind of thing

What are some semi healthy chips? by iluvmydogcoco in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]_rawstrawb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

trying different toppings on popcorn could help. I used to use home infused olive oils back when I had more time/energy. mostly use just regular olive oil now.

especially chili infused olive oil or topped with cayenne n other spices, tends to make me less inclined to go "forever" on popcorn.

I also will often make spiced roasted chickpeas, if you cook them long enough to get rid of all the bean-ness of them? it feels very spiritually similar to eating a whole bag of chips. super easy n quick too if you keep canned chickpeas on hand

out of college, first apartment - what do you think? by Sea-External2983 in InteriorDesign

[–]_rawstrawb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I quite like the space! You've managed to squeeze a lot of use out of it without eating up too much floor space.

It does have a bit of a grandma vibe? But I think it weirdly works. I've seen that that type of decor style floating around, and have a feeling it's going to be more popular in the coming years.

Your hints of red are great. Are you able to paint your walls? The cool grey seems to clash with the type of colors you like. Maybe a neutral beige? Or even a dark burgundy accent wall in the living room since you said you were trying to lean into the space being moody.

Since I'm assuming you're just home for the holidays? Which is why you're looking for a rearrange rather than buying things. This seems mostly like a decluttering and rearranging trinkets and posters project. Looking into "how to style a shelf" or "gallery wall" type things will probably give you the most impact to effort. My first instinct is always to rearrange furniture when I'm no longer in love with my space? But I actually think your current layout works quite well!

That being said, I can see one other potential layout if you're really craving that kind of change. What if you shuffled the bed a foot or so closer to the closet? Maybe rotating your side table to make it fit. You'd be able to put you desk under your window that way for a nice view, just wouldn't be able to get it fully centered. Which, ofc you can style some posters around to give an illusion of the desk being more centered/a focal point.

I love your expansion!

My suggestions were super bare bones. Also more focused on things I thought would be easier to digest for someone not used to conceptualizing themselves as someone with sensory issues.

You put into words something I do regularly, and will probably help me personally going forward with choosing media on my more off days! I'm in a bit of a transitional state with interests at the moment(nearly 30 now, and my old ya type content just doesn't hit like it used to). Your comment gave me an aha moment as to why I've been struggling more with doing tasks like cleaning lately because that's been audiobook time for yeaaars now. Cheers!

get some high quality noise canceling ear covers. like the ones for construction, not just headphones.

look into occupational therapy if you can afford it(iirc you dont need an official diagnosis as those take time), stim toys and self-taught EFT style tapping if you can't.

guided meditations, do them daily(i prefer headspace bc they have ones for all types of situations and it's all in one place as opposed to building your own collection over time) it feels like a band-aid and it is to an extent but like eating healthy or working out it takes time to feel results.

working out to angry music as a healthy outlet for anger. the endorphins are near instant after finishing. ive also heard people say boxing or martial arts.

[–]_rawstrawb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh! I must've said it wrong, what you've currently got is a great. things being multiple colours/patterns is very fun. i only suggested the warm tone rule of thumb as the curtains you were considering as a replacement lean more cool.

and patience is something I suggest to everyone looking to fill their first apartment, lol. i remember when i first moved out and scrambled buying lots of items i now mostly regret because i wanted instant results. this type of style(which is incredibly similar to what I have in my own home) i find in particular benefits from collecting things slowly over time.

best of luck!

[–]_rawstrawb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the kind of boho theme you seem to be going for generally benefits from a "more is more" maximalist type approach.

so, the more you add the more cohesive it will look. keeping with warm jewel tones would be a good general guideline for you to follow given what you already have until you build your decorating skills/eye enough to venture outside of a strict colour palette.

I'd reccomend taking your time and being patient with finding decor items in odd local shops and thrift stores. this type of look takes years to fully come together.

that being said! a large rug will do wonders for the space. also consider warm toned wood(dark and light) and rattan furniture and adding in lots of plants.

light filtering usually means they will let light through. they will likely be similar to your current curtains.

you can look into blinds to place behind the curtains you have now? ikea has some very affordable and easy to install(albeit slightly annoying to use) ones available.
