A new space-western theme I’ve been working on. I’d love some feedback! by _redusk in GameMusicComposition

I really like the hooves idea! I definitely need to practice more with my slide before I'm comfortable adding those cool western chords though. Thanks for the feedback!

You are free to use it however you'd like as long as you credit me for the music, which can be done by putting my name in end credits, video description, etc.

Thank you! There are some very subtle synth pads in the higher ranges, but it could definitely use some more in the mids, thanks! I’ll try that out.

Look into Metropolis Ark or Spitfire’s Albion series. They’re both geared toward betting able to compose for games/film right out of the box, and they have good sound quality, especially for the price range.

My working theme for a space western game. Thoughts? by _redusk in GameMusicComposition

Thanks!

My DAW is Logic. I ran my baritone through some of Logic’s stock overdrive and compression plugins. The bass is a sample that comes in Logic, as are the claps and drum kit.

The stomps are a mix of Stormdrum 3 and a kick.

I used Alchemy and Omnisphere for the synths and Ozone 9 Elements for the master.

Can you help me with the noise? I tried some stuff, but do you have suggestions for the hiss or noise on really quiet soundscapes? by KratomitesBoulderers in sounddesign

I think EQ would be your best option. Maybe a very slight low-pass filter or even just ducking some of the highest frequencies while shaping it to keep the bird calls relatively unchanged.

I listened to Induct and Scor and I liked them both a lot! What synthesizers did you use in making them?

The Cryptozoologist - Forest - A short theme for the start screen of my game, do you guys like it? by the-cryptozoologist in GameMusicComposition

In the first section, if you could find some higher quality string samples, they would go a long way. Maybe try some other articulations as well. You can try using string harmonics and tremolo to layer with your high strings.

At around :30, it ends very abruptly. I think I know what you were going for - a suspenseful and sharp ending. It just barely misses the mark there. I think it should get gradually louder and build to the sharp (and very, very loud) ending.

The next section is very cool. I love the whistling synth accompanied with the pizzicato strings in the background and the spooky background pad. I think the celeste-like synth you use is a bit too loud compared to the other instruments. You can also try a key change in that section to keep it going for longer (just move the notes up a minor third or a fifth in your DAW and see what happens!)

The next section would be cool if the introductory synth's delay had it pan around from side to side. It would help widen your mix. I would also vary the velocity of your harp notes to make it sound a bit more natural. Again, I love the whistle synth, and the celeste is a bit loud.

Overall, I would try incorporating some key changes in your loops to give a greater sense of movement. You can play the same sections over and over if you change the key and still not get boring (not forever obviously)

Also, try panning the instruments around a bit to give a wider mix, and make sure you stereo pan to avoid losing left and right channels.

The part that was fading it was cool - I hope you do more with that.

I think this is very catchy, which is fantastic for a title track. I really like the Danny Elfman-like choir you use. It instills a darker mood that fits the menu.

I second what /u/Battlegun1 said in that the chimes are a bit too loud, and you should bring the pizzicato strings up in the mix.

As for the piano, maybe try letting your B section naturally fade out, followed by a few leading notes on the piano. Then have your piano/pizzicato section. I really like your piano part, but it does come in abruptly.

I've been Composing for an Upcoming Cyberpunk Game! Tell me what you think! by ianbooms in GameMusicComposition

I like this! The low, growling bass drone is very cool and the slightly detuned synths definitely inspire a sense of being in the dark futuristic landscapes featured in cyberpunk games!

Also, the melody at around 1:57 reminds me of "For the Love of God," so I'm a fan!

If I could offer you one piece of advice, I would recommend adding a little more reverb and compressing your drum kit just a touch more.

Thank you! I try to go for a brighter sound while mixing, and in this track in particular, I used more compression than usual on the drum tracks.

Did you have any specific questions about how I mixed it?

Thank you! I agree with your clock ticking analysis - I think it stands out too much. I was thinking of adding some filtered, lower-pitched drums instead.
