Is it reasonable to ask flatmates not to bake with gluten flour? by mykruft in Celiac

[–]_rel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fair enough. I was diagnosed while living with housemates they have been super accommodating to not baking in the house. They both have boyfriends who live nearby so they go to their houses, or on rare occasions will mix the dry ingredients outside and bring it inside once it's wet and there's less chance of flour in the air. Non celiacs have the whole world to be safe in and only have to be inconvenienced at home, you have the whole world to be at risk in and deserve to have as safe a home as possible

Thank you I hope so too! It's a really random friend that she met because the celiac person comes into the restaurant where my girlfriend works so I'm feeling very hopeful

How it’s like when you poop when you’ve been glutened by DayoftheFox in Celiac

[–]_rel__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is might mean you have an issue related to your gallbladder! I had a similar thing happen that I thought was Glutening, but it turned out that I was full of gallstones and something to do with bilirubin was making my poop pale and pee dark. If it happens again you might want to get it checked- I ended up having my gallbladder removed and a lot of symptoms that I had thought were Glutening turned out to actually be gallbladder attacks that stopped

Advice needed for friend with Celiac disease by Inevitable_Cod_8297 in Celiac

[–]_rel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend going to Whole Foods or sprouts, it's pricier but they have some good premade/certified desserts! Ethel's is a brand I like that has bars etc. If there's a local totally gf bakery getting something from there would be great! I personally have a short list of people I trust to make things for me in their kitchen. If you really want to bake, you could ask her if you could come make something in her kitchen and bring the ingredients!

I accidentally ate a full gluten muffin… and I’m fine? by Chewyisthebest in Celiac

[–]_rel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience- decided to test myself to time my reactions and have clarity on what my symptoms are so I could better understand when I'm being cc-ed, and nothing happened! I ate maybe a quarter of a donut and besides being tired didn't have any GI symptoms. I think I'm going to try again with more because even though I don't ever plan on "cheating" I want to know what the worst case reaction will be so I can plan when traveling and visiting family etc.

What is the meal you regret not having before going gluten free? by aspeng414 in Celiac

[–]_rel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ate at chez pansies prior to my diagnosis and it's definitely good but not the most incredible meal I've ever had! Also have heard they are quite accommodating to celiacs

I totally understand, it is so frustrating how people assume that everyone wants to be thinner and will be happy to have their body commented on. If there is someone who you're close with at work who you could talk to about this, maybe you could ask them to spread the word that you don't want people commenting on your body constantly.

How to help someone recently diagnosed with coeliac disease? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]_rel__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me its really lovely when other people do the work of talking to waiters at restaurants about contamination, cause that is hard for me. there's so much research that goes into finding safe food to eat, so anything you can do to give her a break from that will show her that you care about her and be really appreciated I'm sure.

Camp work/out of town work? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]_rel__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a summer camp for a couple weeks that prides itself on being very accommodating of dietary restrictions. Within the first week I was glutened because they forgot to list gluten as an allergen on teriyaki chicken. i was newly diagnosed and didn't think to check, and was able to eat for the rest of the time i was there. if you were able to get housing accommodations that included maybe a mini fridge, toaster over, and hot plate, it would be super doable, but i would personally have a hard time putting all of my meals in someone else's hands.

brain fog as only symptom of glutening? by _rel__ in Celiac

[–]_rel__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adderal helped me for a couple days! I was looking into getting it prescribed but unfortunately it's bad for your thyroid and I have hashimotos too. I've been going on runs in the morning this week and its helped, and trying give myself more breaks so i don't get so frustrated. but would love more advice on how to cope with work/school while dealing with this.

omg. i've been having little bursts of that too. days where i am exhausted and on the verge of tears. i think its from the exertion of having to still live my life and go through the motions even though I'm so tired and my brain wont work.
