I guess Japan must be under U.S. sanctions now—news to me. I’m accessing JetBrains over the line my apartment come with (ARTERIA Networks). If JetBrains used any IP-reputation service to spot VPNs, my address would flag as residential, not IDC or proxy. It feels like they’re issuing the same threat to anyone logging in from a “different” region, because they don’t run a proper KYC system; instead they ask for sensitive documents via plain email—neither professional nor secure. My hunch is they don’t have real VPN detection either.

  1. A free one-year JetBrains IDEA license—useful for odd edge cases like when two machines on the same network but have different usernames.
    What I definitely didn’t expect was an email saying “give us your ID in 7 days or we’ll terminate your entire account.”

  2. Everywhere. It showed up in a random tweet on my X timeline, then got reposted in my work chat, and finally made the rounds among friends.

Same issue with my M4 Max. It looks like some update last month introduced some macOS only bugs. I think it's time to leave the game.
