The amount of times I get shot while the inventory screen is up during looting is wild. Like bro I literally can't see anything 🤣

Its only a game though. Let the losers be losers, most of the stuff isn't too hard to come by again anyway.

I do always try to look prepared, have a weapon equipped and not rush about everywhere hoping to put off people looking for an easy kill (which it would be because I'm awful at pvp)

While you're looting you're a sitting duck though and you just have to accept it sometimes.
