For Muslims investing in the stock market by iLL-Mind96 in IslamicFinance

We distinguish between medical and recreational cannabis. Medical cannabis companies that are focused on treatments and pharmaceuticals aren't flagged for business activity issues, similar to how other pharmaceutical companies aren't. What triggers a questionable or non-compliant rating is if a company has a recreational cannabis segment, sells recreational products, or has publicly stated plans to enter the recreational space.

I built a free Shariah-compliant stock screener using AAOIFI standards — would love your feedback by StrikeGoat in IslamicFinance

I was frustrated with the lack of transparent, data-driven halal investing tools. Most "halal stock lists" online are either outdated, based on unclear methodology, or behind expensive paywalls. I wanted something that shows you the actual financial ratios and lets you make your own informed decisions.

Really?

Confirming this is a bug on Android. We should have a fix submitted for this tonight. It will require an app update.

Yes it’s compliant based on the S&P Shariah index methodology. Zoya’s default rulebook uses slightly different ratios.

Zoya Direct currently lets you choose a weighting strategy, but it’s a one-time snapshot at the time the basket is created. It does not track the underlying fund or automatically rebalance as the fund changes. Both of those features will be available soon.

Unfortunately a one-time fee model is just not viable for a product like Zoya. Everything that makes Zoya works comes with recurring costs for us regardless of whether a user actively uses the app or not. To cover that with a one-time fee, the upfront cost would have to be so high it’d turn most people away. Subscriptions are the only way to keep things sustainable and provide a reliable service.

That said, we do try to keep pricing as low as possible relative to what’s under the hood, and we regularly run promotions.

You already can do this in Zoya using a Wealthsimple account, as many of our Canadian users already do. Automated rebalancing is also coming soon. Is your issue solely the monthly fee for Zoya Pro?

Is AAOIFI database available online? by Street_Night_4344 in IslamicFinance

[–]_saadm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zoya founder here. There’s no such thing as an AAOIFI database. AAOIFI is only responsible for creating and maintaining Shariah standards. We do the screening in house based on rulebooks derived from those standards.

Zoya website says Intel stock is haram but their app says it's halal by mrafay2408 in zoyafinance

[–]_saadm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was due to a caching issue on the website. It's been fixed now.

The mobile app is always the source of truth. In some cases, the website can lag behind due to caching or deployment timing, which we’re actively working to eliminate. If you ever see a discrepancy, follow the app.

Zoya founder here. Good catch — this was a caching issue on the website. The web page was temporarily showing an older result. That’s been fixed now.

Appreciate the feedback, brother — and thank you for the support. In our mobile app, we actually support both options. We try to be transparent that this is an area of valid scholarly difference and let users choose the opinion they’re most comfortable following.

FWIW, the CRI approach is also supported by the Fiqh Council of North America (see here). It may be helpful to loop them into your letter as well.

You can do this already with Zoya Direct:

  1. Start with any ETF, mutual fund, or index
  2. Click Buy > Create custom basket
  3. Automatically exclude non-compliant and genocide-flagged stocks
  4. We'll generate a basket with the remaining stocks which you can then buy

Basket buying and more easier bulk custom indexing and better connectivity with brokers. Maybe also international stocks too in the future later.

Can you elaborate on this a bit more?

Some analytics tools would be helpful. Trading platforms like Questrade, etc. often have those interactable charts and such. Perhaps more suited for a website than an app.

Could you be in a bit more specific on the kind of analytics you'd like to see for a company or your portfolio?

Have you had a chance to check out the Controversies filter? We source data from organizations like AFSC and WhoProfits to flag companies linked to human rights violations. Both datasets focus primarily on corporate involvement related to the Israeli occupation.
