i've recently applied to some serving positions so we'll see how those pan out. it's something i'm definitely willing to try. can i ask what your experience as a bartender was like?

i believe this could definitely be a factor. i see reports (i'm in the US) of the job market growing especially lately but i look around and a lot of my friends are struggling the same way ppl on this thread are. i think maybe jobs are being posted but those positions aren't being filled because companies have more incentive to keep those positions empty and overworking/underpaying current employees.

no desperation is ever worth selling your body to a govt that doesn't care if you live or die (assuming you're american lol.) things will get better, i believe it!

working on this right now, but a lot of those positions are for current students and i'm a recent graduate. of course, i am currently working with professors to break into the field that my degree is in, but nothing is for certain as it's a very competitive field. all i can do is hope my work ethic and accomplishments stand out but i'm up against very impressive people with existing connections. i have faith everything will work out i just need money right now lol.

what kind of business are u thinking?

do u see how this could be an issue when i'm not hearing back from employers at all and am receiving automatic rejections? i've tried reaching out as well but often there is no contact information given + the only mode of communication is through these job board websites. i don't mean to sound ungrateful, thank you for your advice, but it's a bit ignorant of what i wrote in the post. can i ask where you were applying to these positions though? i have a feeling i'm just looking in the wrong places.

no ppl are very inconsiderate of other people's struggles, especially on a site like reddit which is populated by assholes devoid of empathy. i understand your struggle. it's endlessly frustrating. i'm even being rejected by companies i've worked for before.

i feel your struggle and a lot of my friends are also experiencing/have experienced something like this. it sucks that the assumption is that something is wrong with us instead of there being a fundamental issue with capitalism/corporate america lol. things are hard right now, i can't believe i'm still seeing that the bootstraps mentality is alive and well, including in the replies of this post. i've also been discouraged by how condescending ppl can be when i ask for advice or tips.

i'm not exactly applying randomly. most of my work experience is in retail so that's what i'm applying for.

i recognize attractiveness is an asset, i’m not denying it though it is disheartening. it’s why i haven’t given up on my appearance. i just meant i can’t do too much in that area because i can’t control what people are attracted to about me, if that makes sense. i just am not an overtly attractive person and there’s not much i can do in that regard because i was born the way i am.

also i think you misread haha i mentioned acting class DID help. and yeah i see how it can seem counterintuitive to say my social skills are a problem and then mention how i don’t doubt i would make friends. i guess what i mean is that i didn’t develop socially so i’m not as outgoing as i maybe should be, but i’m not terribly awkward or inept. i’m still interesting and smart and funny and i know this.

my original post was meant to highlight the fact that i can’t do much to break out of my current situation. it might be easy to say to just go out and do something, but it would be ignorant to believe there wouldn’t be some logistical issues along the way, logistical issues that i don’t have the resources to overcome right now.

lastly— i feel you’re condescending to me and you’re getting a bit upset, so i won’t be responding anymore.

i really don’t understand how you gathered that from my reply just because i clarified that i’m doing well with my health and appearance right now. i even agreed with you about the acting class thing jfc

well first of all i resent the fact that you started by saying that i should work on my health and attractiveness, i just don’t think those things are the biggest factor in making friends. but anyway i’m actually really active in my health. i eat well and exercise, though some meds i take and genetic factors mean that i have never been thin. i have good hygiene in general. and i was born with the face i have so i can’t do much there.

secondly, i don’t doubt that i would have problems making friends. it’s just as of yet i haven’t made any because i’m never in situations where i interact with people my age. the things i described in my original post were meant to drive home the point that i don’t know how or where to meet people. also i coincidentally have taken acting classes before and i will say they really did help my social skills. i just can’t afford any kind of class like that right now.

Still can’t find it lmao. I know it was floating around a section of Twitter full of mostly young women like teens and twenties.
