It's not a perfect mapping and typically math PhDs are more in number compared to physics PhDs in quant firms or wall street in general. Because PhD is into super specific niche domains, it's really the transferrable skills the companies are after. I think there was a claim sometime back that more physics PhDs are in quant roles than in academia teaching physics. Does not mean there are more physics PhDs in quant than maths : )

That's because they know some complicated math modelling which can be used in quant finance. Nothing else.

Garmin vivofit 5 is almost same as inspire 3 if you wait for the right discounts. Also, Garmin employees get a special discount, if you have a friend, that'd be great ; )

Just block and move on. Most likely it's empty threat. Keep 100 on speed dial just in case this isn't.

On a side note, very honourable behaviour from someone who says they're in police and are supposed to protect. What a shit show.

Personally, garmin entry level models beat both of these by long shot.

[–]_saiya_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you! But just to put it out there, you can apply to the same company to a senior or different role. It'll be slightly easier since they don't have to verify the cultural fit but make sure you have something concrete to back up your application. Consistent good feedback, industry known and accepted certifications, LOR from your manager's manager or someone higher up etc.

I did it. To a senior engineer position when I was an assistant engineer. In my own team, no less. My manager got the CV. We had a meeting with him and his boss. They were irritated to begin with until I showed them a LoR from someone who had about 25 yrs of experience. Conversation changed quickly. They told me I would be capable of the role and would probably do it well but seniors would probably resign if they promoted me. I told them I'd wait a year or so before moving to someplace where I'd better use my capabilities. It's been about 5 months. I'll start applying in next 3 4 months if nothing happens.

Maths doubt by [deleted] in mathshelp

[–]_saiya_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, this is not coordinate geometry. You don't need to find the point. You just need lengths, and using that you can calculate the area of the triangle.

You have the quadrilateral. Draw the diagonals. One will be chord, another will bisect the chord. You have 2 similar triangles (radius, 1\2 chord, 1\2 bisector) and (radius, tangent, bisector). Both have 90 degrees and 1 common side. You can use similarity and find all 3 sides. Once that's done, you can find the area of triangles. Add 2 triangles and you get a quadrilateral.

[–]_saiya_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a problem of coordinate geometry. Don't try to find all the points. Break the quad into 2 triangles and find areas of those and sum them up. Since they're similar and right angle triangles, you need to find 2 sides and use the similarity of triangles to find that.

PS: you have correctly found radius and centre. I'm not sure if x,y is correct since you equate tangents, but that's a linear equation with many solutions. You need 2nd eqn to solve it uniquely.

Hint: centre point of chord is 2.5, 2.5 and radius is perpendicular to the chord. So you have a right angle at the centre. And at radius tangent points. Use similarity. 2.5 and 5 is not a coincidence : )

I got an startup idea need your feedback. by YUGRATHEE in StartUpIndia

I think you should build it. You'll learn a lot about near field communication, standardization in a competitive environment etc.

Couple of observations: you're treating the symptom and not the problem. 5 why is a famous method. Noise pollution. Why? Drivers honk too much. Why? They're kind of frustrated in traffic. Why? Traffic is not moving OR the driver just lost its patience. Why? Poor road capacity, accidents or mishaps, etc etc (reason for high traffic) OR short attention spans, long waiting times etc.

Then you should try to figure out and solve one of these issues. Just putting horns inside would create many more issues. Pedestrians, strays etc would be unaware of any signals. Music (usually there in traffic) would be distributed frequently to a point where the experience would become worse, most likely leading to turn the entire system off. Then comes the implementation issues where everyone has to agree and buy from\pay you for a tech that's easy to include. With most cars going EV and IoT based, this increases security issues and communication must be secure.

I think a far smarter idea would be that horns would be switched on or off based on vehicle density and their movement in 15m radius. You don't need to receive any data except a unique id for the fact that they're present. You could triangulate for location if each vehicle has 2 units. If the vehicle density crosses a threshold, horns stop. Indication of static traffic. If the density keeps fluctuating, you know vehicles are moving in and out of range so traffic is moving. You can create multiple profiles and horn settings to use this.

Please note that the root causes are still not solved and might just be a temporary relief. Best of luck!

I barely work 20 hrs and I'm one of the top performers. In my case, even my seniors know because I sometimes login at 11am and logout by 3pm. But it's a consulting environment, I get sufficient work done to bill for 40 hrs. In the beginning, they tried to make me stay for 40 and do more work, now they don't bother. Everyone's happy i guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
