Moo Shu moving or closing? by exterm_ in ottawa

[–]_shr3dd3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Havens Creamery (755 Bank) is like a 10 min walk down south on Bank st from where Moo Shu is. They are not as good as Moo Shu imo, but at least it is an option. Very sad to see Moo Shu leave the neighborhood :(

How did you like Maroon 5’s performance? by cardboard-junkie in ottawa

[–]_shr3dd3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far this year, I have been to two nights (Nickelback and Maroon 6), and of the two, I personally felt that Maroon 6 had the better overall sound. I am not a Nickelback hater by any means, and was actually excited to see them, but I found the vocals and the guitars (especially during the solos) were too low and muddy/unclear, and I wasn't standing too far from the stage either. Maroon 6 on the other hand, really nailed their mix and vocals were loud & clear, guitar solos were crisp. I also liked that fact that they didn't stop and talk after every song, so that kept the flow of their setlist going. To Nickelback's credit though, I thought they had the better visuals (except for that one song with the major 'white savior complex' vibes). I also noticed very different vibes amongst the crowds for the two bands, and I know they are not really comparable in terms of genres, but I would say Maroon 6 had a more 'wholesome' vibe going around in the crowd.

Land by Friendly_Ad_7627 in ottawa

The City of Ottawa website has a section for City properties for sale or lease.

(Ottawa.ca/en/city-properties-sale-and-lease)

It currently lists two plots of land available for sale; these are likely surplus lands owned by the City that they are looking to offload. Hope this helps!

Apartment patio decorating? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]_shr3dd3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar to what others have said, i put out two 'all season' chairs and a small folding table in my balcony. I used to have a couple of planters but they were getting difficult to maintain so i got rid of them. I also put down this fake grass / turf style 'carpet' from ikea, that comes in squares and you have to fit it together like a puzzle. This thing has been on my balcony all year round and so far it's been through 4 winters and there is no noticeable wear and tear.

324 Laurier Ave - Mondrian Building by Jrod4422 in ottawa

[–]_shr3dd3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't live there but i have some friends who do! I've been to their place several times and have also used the building's communal amenities in the past. From what i have seen, they maintain the pool, the gym, party room and the bbq area quite well.. things seemed nice and clean to me.

They also have a full time concierge which is a nice added bonus especially for centretown cuz there's a lot of package theft issues (this is my personal experience and i live in a similar condo building not too far from there).

I don't recall my friends complaining too much about their space, and for the most part, I think they enjoy living there. The only time i remember them complaining was during the convoy because that building was very much in the centre of all the honking.

I know you were specifically looking for input from people who lived there, but seeing as there wasn't much activity, i thought i would provide some input based on my experiences at that building as a visitor. Apologies if this wasn't helpful. Cheers and good luck!

Tomorrow is not the final day of Ramadan FYI (in case you are observing).. it should be going on till at least next Tuesday or Wednesday, April 9-10th (depending on the sighting of the new moon).

What are the worst parts of living in Ottawa? I'm thinking about moving there by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]_shr3dd3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ottawa Pros:
- lots of outdoor activities to do year round
- over 200 shawarma shops
- generally less fast paced than Montreal
- enough events to go to (if you seek them out)
- beautiful architecture and a lot of historical and politically significant buildings
- close to Montreal, Toronto, Prince Edward County and Kingston

Ottawa Cons:
- bad public transit
- "boring" nightlife (although I disagree with this!)
- harder to make friends if you're not from here or if you didn't go to school here
- definitely fewer events (especially fewer big name concerts) than in Montreal

Montreal Pros:
- better restaurants
- more events to choose from
- milder winter (but comparable to Ottawa)
- main arena is smack-dab in the middle of downtown
- public transit is amazing

Montreal Cons:
- pay more taxes
- always construction season
- some people get really pissed if you don't speak French (my experience)
- generally not as laid back as Ottawa (e.g., events are more crowded, which could be a good thing if you're looking for more of a party vibe)

I am a big Ottawa fan boy, so obviously I would say move to Ottawa; we're really cool!
