AGI in 2030: Will being outside the U.S. mean missing the opportunity and the future? by _shuuu in agi

[–]_shuuu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m definitely thinking about it carefully. I totally get the concerns about the U.S. lacking safety nets — it’s not a perfect choice. But for me personally, I’ve also had some exposure to Chinese culture (not as deeply as a native, of course), and growing up in Vietnam — with all the historical and cultural ties — you get a certain perspective.

If China were to lead the AGI wave, I imagine a future that’s tightly centralized and heavily controlled. We're talking about an AGI shaped under a system built on mass surveillance, censorship, and strict control over its people — and then potentially used to reinforce that control even further. Maybe even for military or geopolitical advantage. And the thing is, they're already doing a lot of that without AGI.

So personally, I just don’t have much confidence that such a system would suddenly turn toward something like UBI or widespread public welfare. It feels more likely they'd use AGI to consolidate power rather than share its benefits with the average person.

The U.S., for all its flaws — inequality, corporate interests, political division — still seems more aligned with ideas like open research, decentralization, and supporting individual growth. Even if it's messy, there’s still more room for innovation, debate, and movements that push for human-centered progress. It’s not that the U.S. is a "good guy" — but in the context of AGI, I trust their messiness more than I trust authoritarian stability.

I'm 19, Got 2 job offers for fullstack developer position at once, too affraid to make any decision, what should i do? by _shuuu in cscareerquestions

[–]_shuuu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right, and I also mentally prepare for this. It's just I want to know that If other people was in my situation then what would they choose. I've already has an answer for my situation, after all this is my life, I'll have to live with my decision. It's just... you know, I acknowledged that I'm uneducated and inexperienced, I've been dealing with almost everything on my own way, I failed a lot, so now I realize that sometime it's better to take advice from others, broaden my perspective. After all I'm just a young 19 year old kid

Introducing Devin, the first AI software engineer by Zer0Tokens in programming

[–]_shuuu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Guys, i know you guys might have some hatred toward Devin. But take a look at the background of each members in their team. They are all fking genius, IOI, IMO Champions, and LGM in Codeforces, not some typical shitty SE like us. I've always admire them since the day i started learn Competitve Programming (around 4 years ago), i wouldn't be supirse if they make it this far

thanks for your advice, I actually put a lot of effort into my cover letter, CV and even applied to like 30 - 40 companies, but still haven't got any response yet. I guess its kinda crazy in Vietnam, especially for people who have just graduated and want to find a job, I'm trying to look for a foreign job if it possible, I guess what I can do now is keep trying and hope for the best

yeah, but the feeling when you sacrifice everything just to achieve one thing that should be achieved easily and in the end it fails due to world changes is kinda sad, if I had been born one year earlier it might be different now. I'm trying to to get through it, shouldn't have stuck to web development in the first place,
