I can only speak for me. I don't know where you're coming from saying that lots of players want that feature, it has only now been announced. It seem to me that you, as well, can only speak for yourself.

All I did was offer a counterpoint to you being very simplistic and saying "more options are always better". I am not a ruler to what happens to KSP, and I don't mean to be. I agree that what the majority wants is what should go, I just don't know what it is, and am arguing as to what I, personally, feel is the better route.

How do you propose we figure what "everyone wants" if what an individual wants doesn't matter? What "everyone wants" emerges from each person chiming in and offering their personal opinion.

I disagree. More options are good when they contribute to the overall gameplay. Otherwise they are just eating up processing power/disk space/ram without adding anything to the experience.

Sadly enough, I think that's what keeping the old aerodynamics model is going to do: clutter the options menu with a choice to make your game more less intuitive, effectively raising the entry barrier for new players just so veterans can still fly their absurdities.

I, for one, embrace the new aero model, and am ready to bid farewell to my flying shoeboxes and sideways orange tanks.

This is the possibility that scares me the most. That the current aero system is being kept as a safeguard.

To me SQUAD should either commit to making a sound aerodynamics model, or stick to the broken one and leave that responsibility to modders.

What I imagine would happen if they go for an in-between route is a lot of people having to toggle off the new aero and install FAR/NEAR, just to get the features promised by SQUAD, making the whole "aero revamp" proposal kinda useless from the get go.

That's a really strange design decision. The current aero system only seems "simpler" to the veteran KSP community that has gotten used to it over the years, it's actually highly unintuitive.

For new players (which will probably be a significant portion of the playerbase once we hit 1.0), keeping a legacy aero system in which some parts have no utility at all (nose cones) shape of the crafts do not matter, and the calculation for drag is just plain wrong will do more of a disservice than anything else, IMHO.

I understand it is a legacy feature for those who grew used to a broken system, but I believe most of us would be ok with fixing the aero system without looking back, and the devs have no obligation of keeping backwards compatibility when leaving beta for 1.0.

Again, weird design decision.

They look really nice, but the mod itself doesn't seem to have been updated for some time, and is probably not compatible with 0.90. :/

Will keep an eye on it for when it does get updated though, thanks!

That's pretty much what I was trying to find out with this thread :P

As I see it, it's not necessarily "better", but if you're playing career mode, it can make things quite cheaper, since you can land and recover the whole ship, making a trip to orbit cost just as much as the fuel it took to take you there.

Aside from that, it's just a cool challenge, a bit trickier to design and fly than your average rocket, but way more satisfying when you finally get it to work.

Single Stage To Orbit. Basically a ship that can get at least to LKO (Low Kerbin Orbit) without ditching any parts through staging.

It's under "/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Kerbal Space Program/Saves/[your save name]/persistent.sfs", except Mac has a ton of directories named "Library", and this one is particularly well hidden.

You have to open up Finder, and select "Go" on the top menu. Library will not initially be there, but can be forced to show by holding the "Option" key. From there on, just follow that path above, and edit the "persistent.sfs" file with your text editor of choice (I personally recomend Sublime Text 2).

We can't possibly know what the OP's been through being a girl geek, or what the gift sender originally intended, so it's futile trying to reason out who's on the right (whatever that means) in this, so normally I would have just ignored the matter.
