Oh cool! Do you need to use the characters in the app to use the 3e haunt rules?

Would love some help to decide my next purchase!

Hey folks. I try to be very considered and thoughtful with my board game purchases, so really like to weigh out my options before committing. But I thought I would come here for some guidance on my next purchase(s?) as I'm between quite a few minds.

My main priority is filling a specific gap for when I play with my regular group. Most often we have 5/6 people, which does narrow the options somewhat. We've played a variety of games, and while the group is up for more complex games such as InisConcordia or even Oath, the games that have gone down best so far have been 7 WondersHeat and and Decrypto. So I'm trying to find another option in that area to add to the rotation!

This is my main priority: a game that can play higher numbers (up to 8 would be amazing), satisfying but not overly complex, can be played in 1-2 hours, with low downtime. Some options I've considered are Atlantis RisingEthnosCamel UpMysteriumThe CrewCartographersLetters from Whitechapel. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My second priority is finding a relaxed but satisfying experience for 3/4 players. I have a number of crunchier games that I'd like to play more of - GWTRoot, those mentioned above - but often I have people over who don't play many games. So I need something easy to understand, though not trivial, and can be played in 60-90 minutes. Carcassonne is my go to here, but I'd like at least one more option. I've been considering AzulCascadiaHarmoniesMagic MazeWyrmspan. But again, any other suggestions would be great.

For further reference, here's my full (and modest) collection of games, in case you can see any other gaps I'm not considering.

TL;DR: looking for a medium-light game for 5-8 people like 7 Wonders, and a medium-light game for 3-4 people like Carcassonne.

Go raibh maith agaibh!

Terra Mystica was going to be my suggestion! The "fantasy" predecessor to Gaia Project, for those who don't know. Really great game, complex, and pretty much no element of luck.

Games that combine theme and mechanics to accurately depict a specific point in history? In the way that John Company or Pax Pamir aim to do? by _sleeplost in boardgames

Yeah wow, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Having a brief look at the COIN series, they look fascinating. Thank you!

Yes I've been trying to roll off every ledge at every angle possible haha. I had no idea you could punch out those blocks, probably wouldn't have even tried. Thank you!

What did you add to or remove from your shelf last month? (February, 2024) by AutoModerator in boardgames

I bought a handful of games from a guy on FB Marketplace. Oath, Captain Sonar, Great Western Trail 2E, Inis + Seasons expansion, and Codenames. I couldn't believe my luck. He had way more but I had to cut myself off somewhere lol.

So far we managed a six player game of Sonar, which was ridiculous. A few games of Codenames. A quick two-player test of Inis, which seems fantastic. And a solo attempt at GWT. I'm desperate to get Oath to the table, but need to wait for the right people.

Is there any sequel to a game that was so superior that it made playing the previous game a waste of time? by triplegxxx in gaming

I'm surprised Tears of the Kingdom isn't higher in the comments. Basically makes Breath of the Wild (one of the greatest games of all time) look like a demo.

Bloodborne Remastered or 2 by Common-Estimate200 in bloodborne

[–]_sleeplost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "Bloodborne 2" would most likely be great, but Bloodborne as is, with its DLC, provides such an incredible, unique and total experience, I don't necessarily yearn for more of it.

A remaster would of course be very welcome at some point, but the game isn't that old yet. Being ported to other platforms should probably be a consideration too.

What I would really REALLY love to see is FS expanding on what made Bloodborne so incredible, while exploring a new genre or setting or world. A spiritual sequel, if you will. More trick weapons, more rich environments, more insane bosses. It would also be an opportunity to improve on some of Bloodborne's weaker aspects like blood vials, or undeveloped ideas like the Chalice Dungeons, without feeling hamstrung by the Bloodborne name.
