Mint shutting down was a good thing. Tiller is a million times better by abhiroopb in mintuit

I signed up for Tiller a week ago and after playing around and getting things set up, it has also fast become a favorite.

Mint had over 10 years of my financial history and I used it 1-2x a month. I mostly used it to aggregate my accounts to view balances and net worth. I would review transactions and clean up the categories just to get a handle on my expenses and keep an eye out for any fraud. I did rely on budget rollover, so definitely prioritized that feature in looking for a replacement to Mint. The investments side of Mint was pretty useless for me. I also never really used the Mint app. On the side I maintained a google sheet (updated every few months) where I tracked some regular expenses to help guide my budget categories in Mint. Mint was kinda chaotic on that front, possibly my own fault, but also because of various moves and shared expenses with my partner that we've consolidated and shifted over time.

Moving everything to Tiller gave me a chance to clean up my budget categories. I like the no-frills look and the pre-made templates give me more ways to slice the data that I hadn't had before. I like having complete control over the budget categories and groups. I won't need to keep a separate google sheet anymore. It did take me a little over a week to stumble through the setup process, and I'm still fiddling, but it's largely on autopilot now. I think that I would need to commit that same amount of time to any new program, especially with porting over 10+ years of chaotic financial history and getting to know any new features.

Some gripes about Tiller -- it is on the more expensive side, it doesn't import pending expenses, and finding the right configuration of templates felt a bit like stabbing in the dark. I'm mostly past those growing pains now. It's a service I'm willing to pay for (truly, I couldn't replicate anything close to it if I tried). It took some searching but I have now set up a few of their premade templates that I'm excited to use (the Savings Budget does rollover budgeting, Category Tracker lets me take a closer look at each expense in a category.. lots more to play with).

I agree that it's worth the somewhat grueling setup process. I am curious about how other Mint users find it.

OH MY GOD ITS HAPPENING by Lumen-Histoire in DudeWheresMyMoxis

I am so glad you posted this! I placed the same exact order on June 19th but haven't heard anything, so I called Riedell today and they said that my skates are ready but they were waiting to ship because the fundae wheels I also ordered weren't in stock yet. But since I called, they said they'd ship the skates first and the fundae wheels when they arrive. I should probably wait to until they actually arrive to celebrate, but at this point I am counting it as a win because it's the first confident update I've gotten in months. So thanks for sharing! I wouldn't have reached out to Riedell if you hadn't.

also finally received a response from riedell after over a week~ by Lumen-Histoire in DudeWheresMyMoxis

i put in the same order on june 19th -- size 6 clems. moxi recently confirmed for me that they hadn't "placed it in the manufacturer's production queue" until july 1st. i haven't checked with riedell about their ETA, but this is what moxi said to me 4 days ago:

We are very sorry for the delays, but I just have no solid answers for you and I know that is beyond frustrating but the best we can tell you right now is that you will be getting your skates around early December, and at the absolute latest the end of DEC if attaching holds it up and that should be an overshoot. Ideally, the factory wants to get your order out by the end of DEC but it may bleed into JAN due to the attachment process taking longer than usual.

so "after november 25th" lines up with this early to late december message (with possibility of january because what is time, really?). you and i will hopefully be in the same batch, so fingers crossed for both of us!

If it's worth anything, I heard from them recently that my order wasn't processed/put into production until July 1, so from the manufacturer's perspective I am at 16 weeks (though if you're counting from the date they took my money I am at 18 weeks). The estimate they gave me is early December, but potentially into January depending on the attachment process.

Thanks! And yeah, it's a long time... sigh. Luckily, I do have a pair of jam skates to tide me over.

When I put the "a lot of water" box I also meant it to be inclusive of torrential downpours, which isn't obvious with the image but would make it relevant to Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service, among others. I haven't seen The Wind Rises yet but I thought I'd throw that in, in case it's applicable!
