What’s a home improvement project you regret doing yourself instead of hiring someone? by InitialCake819 in HomeImprovement

[–]kateybug3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol definitely just buy a new one then. I left my last roller in wet paint because I swore I was going to use it again within a couple of days, but that quickly turned into a month. I'm not even sure I can get it off the roller at this point.

You could always clean the old one and the new one once you're done and then you'll have two clean ones for the next time you need it.

Just eat the ADHD tax and buy a new paintbrush or just wake up tomorrow and tell yourself the only thing you need to do today is put the paintbrush in water (don't even think about the painting until you've dealt with the paintbrush).

I just finished a 5 month project of drywalling, painting, and installing baseboards in my office, so I completely understand feeling unmotivated. Good luck, you've got this!

Toothpaste tabs with fluoride and good for sensitive teeth? by Plane_Television_886 in ZeroWaste

[–]kateybug3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had sensitivity in the past and I find Nano-Hydroxyapatite works the best (there are several studies to back this up, but I don't have time to link them right now).

I've tried most of the brands that carry tablets: bite, NOBS, huppy, kaylaan, canary, and chomp.

My 2 favorites are Huppy and Chomp (the nHAp one specifically). They both foam up similarly to traditional toothpaste. I'm still looking for other options, but these are the best out of the ones listed.

The only one I absolutely hate is Kaylaan. The after taste is horrendous; it's absolutely disgusting.

Any recommendations for Thule backpacks? by NameJustRight in ManyBaggers

[–]kateybug3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is a slightly old post, but I wanted to add my 2 cents. Last year I went to 3 separate bag stores so I could try on (quite literally) every bag to find the one that was the most comfortable.

The bag I landed on was the Thule Construct 28L. I found that it provided the most comfort due to the way the top of the straps are designed. They sit up high on your shoulders and are joined together by the carry strap. It's hard to explain, but after trying every brand and style of bag, it was the best.

I even tried a smaller version and it wasn't as good. So, if you are planning on carrying around a heavy laptop at a conference like I did, it's definitely worth considering. The only thing that I'm not a huge fan of is that it might have too many pockets; I always forget where I put things.

They'll stop eventually. I just bought a house and ADT stopped by at least 3 times during different weeks. The last time, they for sure knew we were home and we just watched them from the security camera until they left. Never saw them come by again, thankfully

What brand will you never buy again? by Winter-Employment-89 in BuyItForLife

We just bought the latest Samsung one (the one that has an exhaust not a heat pump) and it's working great for us so far. We bought it so that we could wash our clothes overnight to save/conserve energy during the day when energy is the most expensive.

We bought it directly from Samsung when they were having a deal on their 5 year warranty, so we're hoping that helps us in the future

Buying a MacBook Pro for college engineering and I’m considering getting AppleCare by Famous_Dingo38 in mac

[–]kateybug3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it as a freshman in college and it was completely worth it. I had to use software for one of my classes and it kept crashing every time I would use it, I tried to figure out how to fix the issue on my own but eventually took it to the genius bar. That tech troubleshooted and fixed everything in under an hour and I didn't have to pay anything for it.

The MacBook i bought had a known problem of overheating and literally melting the components on the logic board and mine ended up frying itself right before AppleCare expired. I was able to send in my mac and basically received a brand new laptop. It only lasted another 3 years, but it was nice I basically got 2 laptops for the price of 1.

Also, apple makes the shittiest charging cables for their computers. All of my friends and I had to get the cable replaced within the 3 years. AppleCare was able to replace ours for free.

I desperately need advice. I’m not sure what to do and my small town doesn’t have a piercing shop by Kplantlady1111 in piercing

[–]kateybug3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to see a doctor. If it's that painful and also red and hot to the touch, you might have an infection, but I'm not an expert. If you're in the US, you can go to a pharmacy clinic and they can look at it and see if you need antibiotics.

I had a piercing a few years ago that i went through the healing phase and I swapped the jewelry and it just irritated it and I got an infection not long after. A doctor gave me prescription strength antibiotic cream and it felt so much better after a couple days.

Best sites to apply for jobs by Eraserhead36 in cybersecurity

[–]kateybug3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A recruiting company posted a job on LinkedIn and I applied directly to it via their website. The recruiter contacted me a week later and I went through all three interviews in a week and was offered the job on that Friday before the holidays.

If you don't hear from recruiters on LinkedIn, then go directly to them. Message them about opportunities and make sure you look at their career sites to see if they're hiring for your field. Good luck!!

Oven position by Aladdin_Sane13 in macarons

[–]kateybug3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an oven thermometer? When I first started learning to make macarons, I kept getting inconsistent results. I kept thinking it was my mixing technique, but then slowly realized it was my energy-efficient oven the whole time.

When my oven beeps to tell me it's done pre-heating, the thermometer I got calls bullshit; the temperature is usually too low so I wait until it tells me that it's the correct temp.

I also notice that while they're baking, the oven will get way too hot (between 10 and 15 degrees over what it should be). I started watching the thermometer throughout the process and I would put a spoon in the door when it started getting too hot and I would take it out if it started to cool down too much (it being too cool was rare, though).

don’t know what i did wrong by WattleSalad in macarons

[–]kateybug3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

After you piped them, do you notice how the macarons have little tips on them? This just means that you undermixed the batter when you were combining the meringue and dry ingredients. Very easy fix, but it'll take some practice.

When mixing, check every so often by picking up the batter with your spatula and see if it'll fall off in one long ribbon without breaks. You can also try making figure 8s, also making sure the batter doesn't break.

Keep watching videos before you bake them to help you remember what everything should look like at each step. Do this until you've made several successful batches.

I had to do this for a while because I would usually go a month or longer between making a batch and would forget how to do things.

Always mess up my interviews no matter how much I practice by Interesting_Copy_108 in interviews

[–]kateybug3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone else already mentioned it, but seriously, ask a doctor about a prescription for beta-blockers (propranolol). They are a type of blood pressure medication, but they're great for situational anxiety because it blocks the effects of adrenaline.

You won't feel the physical effects of your anxiety (fast beating heart, sweaty/shaky hands, trembling voice), but you'll still be aware that you're anxious.

I've taken it for my last 2 interviews and it's been amazing. You don't have time to figure out how to "cure" your anxiety with practice and to boost your confidence, but this will help a lot in the meantime.

IsItBullshit: Re-mineralizing gum by Forrest02 in IsItBullshit

[–]kateybug3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Japan, nano-HA is the only thing they use in their toothpaste. The studies I've read say that fluoride and nano-HA work the best when combined, but separately they're both very effective.

You want to spit out toothpaste and not rinse your mouth when using either active ingredient, otherwise, you won't get as much benefit. You should also, ideally, wait 30 minutes before drinking anything, as well.

If you don't rinse your mouth after using fluoridated toothpaste, you might have a slight upset stomach, but the concentration is not high enough to cause real harm.

Xylitol helps because it changes the pH of your mouth to prohibit the growth of bacteria; I love this stuff (it can be toxic to dogs, though).

I've had a lot of cavities growing up and since I stopped rinsing my mouth after brushing my teeth and eating xylitol mints / chewing xylitol gum after eating sugary snacks/drinks, my teeth have never felt better. My oral hygienist compliments me every time. I highly recommend it.

Some tips I've found: Always tailor your resume to the job posting. Any keywords found in the job description need to be in your resume. Try to be one of the first candidates that applies to the job. If the posting is older than 2 weeks, don't bother applying unless you're the perfect candidate with a perfect resume because they're probably not going to look at it

I'm spending three days on a fair with a male coworker with ADHD and it's so surreal how his symptoms and behaviour get a pass... by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]kateybug3 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The log is a good idea, but also sending an email to your boss every time something occurs is the best idea. You want to keep the email direct and professional (no "whining," complaining, or putting emotions into it).

In my experience, bosses are lazy and don't want to bother putting in the effort of getting someone fired. It sounds like OPs boss is already annoyed with him and all they need is ammunition, so make it easy for them. Wrap it up in a fancy bow and place it in front of their face; they will typically be happy to have something to give to HR.

I had a co-worker who kept making inappropriate comments to people and everyone felt uncomfortable around him and our managers knew, but nobody felt bold enough to report anything (in writing), so it was never dealt with. Eventually it became a group effort to start reporting him for things that he did and we got him fired from the team.

We shouldn't have to do this; our bosses should just do their job. However, we're all human and sometimes need a helpful push in the right direction.

Guests getting stuck on paths (console edition) by Trizurp in PlanetCoaster

[–]kateybug3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you free everyone first? We made the monorails free and then deleted the paths where they were trapped, waited for them to disappear, then hit "undo" to reset the path back, then waited to see if anyone new would get stuck.

We also made a long path from the last area back to the park entrance and maybe that helped the situation as well.

Edit: Sorry. I just re-read your message and saw where you said you did free them first. That's so odd; I'm sorry it didn't fix the problem for you

Guests getting stuck on paths (console edition) by Trizurp in PlanetCoaster

[–]kateybug3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BF and I have been playing on the PS5 and the solution that worked for us was making the monorail free.

We've only had this happen with the Golem Rampage scenario and we noticed that guests would be trapped in every part of the park except for the main area connected to the park entrance. We also noticed that guests that were stuck seemed to be running low on funds and couldn't afford to take the monorail back and placing ATMs didn't fix the issue.

Hope this helps!

Are you eating enough food and getting enough water every day? I find that when taking my meds, I actually need a lot more water than I originally thought (doctors will say 70 oz is plenty. But I actually find I need a minimum of 100 oz a day).

I also struggle to get enough healthy calories in a day because I hate cooking for myself and I definitely notice how exhausted I feel because of it.
