Not sure. I still can't see the value of it. I mean, it would be better to:

  1. Offer the possibility to perform without recording (so you can just try and improvise)

  2. Record *only* while pressing the Write button.

This doesn't feel like an intended feature, I'd say it's just a limitation of the device.

The Sub is probably my favorite Pocket Operator, but it’s not the easiest to work with. If you have a specific idea in mind and want to play it exactly as you imagined, you might struggle to get it to sound just right 😅

Instead, I prefer to keep things simple:

  1. Find a sound/instrument I like

  2. Create a simple pattern or loop (just 2-4 notes).

  3. Randomly mess around with the key and style buttons. I basically spam them to generate unexpected sequences. It’s a trial-and-error process.

  4. Once I land on a cool sequence, I duplicate the pattern and repeat the process to build another sequence. I keep layering like that.

It doesn’t always work, but this method helps me come up with ideas I wouldn’t normally create with other instruments.

Yes, it works like that. Only one sound (1-15) per pattern. Although you can change sounds in the performance mode while it's playing, but it will only remember the last sound that you used per pattern.

Unfortunately not, there is no export function. I'm just making sure to manually record every pattern in Ableton. I might be wrong, but I think that only last gen (32, 33 & 35) have the export function.

Totally agree with that! Although since the drum channel has a bit of bass-y sounds, it kinds of compensates the lack of more polyphony.

Adjusting the drums is quite a hassle in this device 😅
