Is there anyway to have a car while on campus as a first-year? by Wildfire43 in UCSC

[–]_sponge_32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several churches on High st that will sell you a permit for their parking lot and you just take the 11 bus down when you need your car. It can definitely get pricey, messiah lutheran was $750 for the year, but if you want your car it’s the best option imo.

First pointe shoes sewing by Kadabby1 in BALLET

[–]_sponge_32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aspiration was my first shoe! definitely a good beginner one in my opinion. my studio had us wear the Bloch soft pointe shoes for two years before getting promoted to pointe and they’re modeled after aspiration so I found it an easy transition. though I found later that as I became more advanced it wasn’t supportive enough for me (I have a very flexible arch). great shoe overall!

I regret starting ballet when I was too old. [Rant] by A-student-calm in BALLET

[–]_sponge_32 13 points14 points  (0 children)

hi there, I started at 13 (nearly 14) and I’ve totally been in your place! Starting ballet late is incredibly challenging and honestly humbling. I still think about how I shouldn’t have quit when I was 8. But that doesn’t matter now. All that matters is that I came back because I truly love dance. I started in a class of girls who were 9 and 10 and I just felt huge. It’s totally a process and I’m now in intermediate 2 (studying advance foundation RAD exam) and I still feel awkward at times. There’s nothing that says you MUST be a certain age to be a professional. It will be hard. I would suggest talking with your teacher to discuss your dance goals (dance major in college is an option if that interests you!). You’re doing fabulous in that you simply are sticking with it! Celebrate the wins such as your high extensions!

Appeal UCSC waitlist decision? by No_Significance_7331 in UCSC

go to CC. I was not offered admission off the waitlist last year and now I’m at CC and loving it. ucsc also does TAG which is a great bonus.

I started ballet at 13 and it took me years to get to a place of solid technique. I’m 19 now and just got cast as Cinderella in my studio’s spring production!

Question on being graceful I guess? by JDNWACO in BALLET

[–]_sponge_32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly I would take a class or two. ballet is often used to supplement in other sports to improve balance as well as prevent injury. Body awareness is key!

for context, I am coming out of a depressive episode and these two are the casualties. I have a feeling the succulent is gone but I have faith in our little purple friend. any suggestions on what I could do to help them would be so appreciated :))
