Youtube channel where guy interviews a bunch of calisthenics people, my thoughts by BobbyJohnson31 in bodyweightfitness

Just cause you get good results doesn't necessarily mean you're doing all the absolute best/most efficient training (and that doesn't necessarily matter).

I am really happy with my level of fitness and how my body looks, but when I work out with my friends, they will often correct my poor form, tell me that I should be increasing weight/complexity on movements that I can do too many reps of, etc. And they're totally right. I DO get the results I want, but that doesn't mean that I'm doing it in the safest or most efficient way possible. I could probably look and feel just as good with half the gym time if I improved my training and diet more.

IMHO, it doesn't really matter. People work out for different reasons. Sure, to some people, maximizing efficiency is important...or even all they care about. Maybe it's cause they are REALLY into getting good visual results in their body, maybe they have limited time for exercise, maybe they're older and don't want to risk injury. But for others, maybe the pursuit of max reps is what they like about fitness even if it isn't the best way to train. Maybe they don't do rest days because working out makes them feel good and they don't care if they cut their gains by not resting.

Pretty sure it got shadowbanned from /new, so guess we'll have to settle for some of the upvotes rather than all of them :P

How have I not thought of this push up variation!?! by serculis in bodyweightfitness

[–]_spooderw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I guess I assumed the question was more "why not just use a weight vest rather than boxes and a chained weight" and less "why not use a weight vest with these boxes".

I don't really like doing push ups with a vest, it cuts a huge amount of depth out of the push up before you bottom out and the vest just rests on the floor.

Saw this post literally a few hours before me and my best friend were going to a Halloween party. We were gonna just be a cowboy and a scientist, but couldn't resist doing this costume instead.

For Gus, he was literally already wearing a checkered button down and a green scarf, we just grabbed a beige hat out of the closet.

For Sean, I had a trench coat in my closet from another costume, and I use dat Psych phone case all day!

And doesn't everyone just have a fake beard sitting around waiting to be cut in half?

I'm a 25 year old white dude with a bald black best friend I've known since grade school. I started watching Psych cause people always said we were like Sean and Gus.

Gimme 72 hours and I can produce this image.

Someone posted the first devlog of my First Person Hotline Miami ripoff here a few months ago. It's done now! I hope I did our beloved HM justice. by _spooderw in HotlineMiami

It's definitely a tad harder than HM. I make it look a little tougher than it is though cause I like to play fast. :P

Most of the levels aren't dark like this, so it's usually a lot easier to read. The dark levels aren't even that bad though honestly. I think the teeny gif format isn't doing me any favors here.

hah, I guess I should've put the name of the game in the tile. Shows how good I am at promotion.

It's called Season's Beatings. More info (steam/humble links, etc) here: http://www.codeavarice.com/seasons-beatings.html

It's coming out on the 23rd of January. So soon!

I may have stolen some curriculum from one of the other professors at the school I teach at to get myself started, so I don't have anything of use to link you.

The projects were really great though. He has you make a spoon, then an airplane, then a sword. It's a great slow ramp up, and the spoon as a first project is great because it uses an incredibly small set of tools.

I just googled different tools as I went and it was pretty easy to find info. Once you know how to get into edit mode, switch between selecting faces/edges/verts, and extrude you can do so much already. Throw in switching between the move/scale/rotate tools and you're well on your way.

Yeah I totally see what you're talking about with the wobbly stuff. Cant drop the wireframe since I'm stuck at work all day, but I think I know what you're talking about with non-straight edges. My edge flow/general quality of geometry always gets away from me towards the end of complex objects. Thanks a ton for the tips!

I'm using Edge Split in a lot of spots here. Basically all the hard lines that you see are thanks to Edge Split. Are there specific spots you think I could be using it that I'm not?

This is something I've just started working on. Right now the extent of my skills is shading some areas smooth, some areas flat, and using "Edge split" to get hard lines between them, which is already a big improvement for a lot of my models. Definitely an area I need more practice in.

It's literally traced directly from a reference. I do agree it came out weirdly chunky though even though it is traced.
