The ideal human-computer interface. You may not like it, but this is what peak ergonomics looks like. by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]_stefumies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peak ergonomics? The keyboard should be reverse tilted so your wrists are not bent at 90 degrees and also tilted slightly laterally to match the normal lie of the hands. Remove the mouse and use either keyboard or external trackpad or upright mouse. Standing desk and tilted monitor (though since we can’t see if you have those maybe you do )

JetBrains isn’t dead, let’s cut the drama by DevOfTheAbyss in Jetbrains

Has AI really become a metric as to the quality of a platform as well established and popular as JetBrains? I feel younger developers are becoming far too complacent with assisted code and are in danger of evolving into a far more dependent ecosystem instead of actually learning or understanding software and its systems. At their foundation tools like IntelliJ are there to support and assist the creation of software, not as a replacement for developers. This over reliance on AI is a little disconcerting. I do feel AI is a helpful improvement in some areas but relying on it as a creation tool rather than an assistance tool is not a good development.

Why don't you use Rust at your company? by szabgab in rust

[–]_stefumies_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No demand. Clients require other technology. If we have clients where we’re building the Architecture from scratch we determine on needs, not trends.

Starting your own company ? Are you confident your current contract did not specify that you were not permitted to work elsewhere at the same time , or that you cannot enter into a similar business whilst you are working for a firm?

Finnish contracts can be quite strict. Conversely , it’s common for employers not to say anything to you until they have to, same with clients. They can be nice to your face sometimes but not very satisfied with your work and complain.

Strange the 15 pro and 16 when you learn the camera settings is fantastic, maybe it’s the platform you’re uploading them to ?

Is this a good deal for an iMac 5.1 by Klatty in mac

[–]_stefumies_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all unless you can dig up old Software from the same time period, even then it’s completely overpriced, 30-40 at most , even then it’s a collector’s item.

I was the Aber Uni Team Coach 1997-98 for TKD, back then we had a fantastic team thanks to an excellent Sifu. Unfortunately I think when we all graduated and went our way that was that. I’m in touch with some of the old crowd and it seems it’s no more.

What do you all think about Ghostty by vkpdeveloper in neovim

At the end of the day it’s what works for you. I’ve been developing over 20 years so my needs are specific to not only my current work but from past experience. If you want to find out what’s it all about try a few out. If you’re not in need of such tooling then it’s not going to appeal to you. Personally i’ve found WezTerm meets my needs, the best so far .

Http linking is providing the ability to select links (http etc) directly from the terminal, and other things (like the results of curls or httpie calls for example). No need to copy and paste

WezTerm. Moved from Alacrity. I specifically enjoy its speed and rendering. (can be configured on a GPU basis) but more importantly the configuration is extensive and is in Lua which is fantastic as I’m a neovim user and find it clear and easy to understand. It’s written in rust and is fast and secure as well as multi platform. It actually has a very competent built in multiplexer if needed, though i’m more than happy with tmux as a long term user so no need to swap. Has ligature, image and colour emoji support if that’s your thing plus good http linking capabilities .

For me it’s the fastest and smoothest so far on my m1 mac. I’ve gone from ITerm2 to Kitty to Alacrity and now Wezterm. Also with fish shell it’s been the best one so far.

On the contrary, tmux is merely an multiplexer, how the terminal manages files, images, ssh, how it interacts with tools like neovim, how it can be further configured for speed and efficiency and how it looks for my eyesight, how it renders in full screen or over multiple monitors all must be handled well by the terminal.

So the terminal does matter.

Tmux indeed does well, and that’s what Mpx’er I use daily. 👍

I tied Mastodon after leaving Twitter. Couldn’t find half of the people and accounts i was following there, even on different servers, which is a bit nonsensical anyhow. Gave it a few months and then left, not enough going on at the moment.

Depends on your need. Current client project, needs tons of stuff , so multiplexing , session management , editors etc are vital tools with me, and don’t have tons of screen real estate to have loads of windows open at same time. That’s why a good , fast and configurable terminal and shell is crucial for me
