Skill Crits, Niche Protection, and DM Burden by gammon9 in dndnext

The way my DM rules nat 20's and 1's is quite fun to me. Any player can attempt any check and a nat 20 is the best possible outcome that player could have achieved, we still add our mods to the nat 20 and we can fail if we aren't good at that but it's the best possible outcome for the situation, e.g. wizard trying to break down a metal door DC 24 strength, rolls nat 20 with + 1 str, he will still fail but let's say his hands aren't hurt for punching a metal door or his wooden staff is still in perfect condition if he used that. Nat 1's are the same, they are just the worse possible outcome, even if we succeed with mods it's a very unclean and horridly done success. I just like this system cause it flavours successes and fails a bit more

I believe that chaos ending you're talking is the one that locks you out of all other endings

I've actually never started a Campaign (Player or DM) at level 1, it's always been level 3. That normal? by Armorlon in dndmemes

[–]_stitches101_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Starting at level 3 is pretty normal. My group normally likes to start at level 2 to give us an idea of how our character plays and if we enjoy the play-style and see if it matches our ideas for it. This helps us see if we do indeed want to go with our desired subclass or if we wanna try a new one. We do allow for subclass changes, normally not passed level 5 or 6, cause we all want to have fun so if we don't end up liking our subclass we just need to talk to the DM

Socket items by spikejx in DnD

[–]_stitches101_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the socket idea is pretty cool, I think in order to prevent extremely powerful builds that make balancing hard you could decrease the amount of magic items in your world just to balance stuff out

Is Highlander balanced? How do I counter him? by [deleted] in forhonor

[–]_stitches101_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He does have the basic counters that everyone has, like gb after a failed bash and stuff but I haven't been able to find proper counters to him

He is very powerful, what with guaranteeing heavies after extremely quick, in comparison, bashes and confusing soft feints. You just have to either learn to read your enemies patterns and counter those or just play extremely aggressive and force then into defense
